Leaps in Logic
Ever since I was a kid, I was fascinated with the lore of Big Foot. I remember even having the Big Foot shoes that Kinney Shoes sold. It is interesting to think that there could be a mystical creature running around in the woods of any number of countries. Yet despite sightings, there is no proof. Enter the reality TV show.
Get a group of Big Foot enthusiasts together, along with a skeptic, set them up in the woods on an investigation and let the fun begin. My favorite part of any of these shows is watching them run or get scared when they think they hear a Big Foot coming toward them. It's funny.
Last night, while folding laundry, I got to see leaps and bounds in logic that still have me shaking my head. The cast of the show had a drone expert set up to investigate whether Big Foot was in an abandoned mine. Nevermind that the opening and tunnels of the mine were so small that a regular sized human would be uncomfortable. Add in the fact that the mine was abandoned for poison gas and I was eye rolling like crazy. They were acting as though they seriously expected to find proof of a Big Foot living in these cramped, poisonous quarters.
It would be one thing if leaps in logic, past the most obvious details, weren't made in our day to day lives, but they are. And most depressing of all, leaps of logic are made in real estate. I still remember a Buyer's Agent who negotiated with me by coming to the conclusion that if my sellers didn't do this particular repair, his buyer would have to do it on a ladder, fall off and be on disability. WHAT? How did we get to a repair not being done equal your buyer injuring himself and losing his job?
Dare to dream of a day in our future when facts are in the forefront. One of the reasons I love my job is that inevitably, it comes backs to provable facts. What does the contract say?
Big Foot in a tiny, poisonous mine? Come on! We can still look for Big Foot and believe it may be out there, but please don't treat me like I'm stupid.
