Lesson of the sand
When we can lean on and learn from each other, we all grow stronger.
Years ago, someone said to me, “See yourself on the beach. You are on your knees. Now reach out, palms down and grab as much sand as each hand can. What happens?” I replied, “The sand all slips through my fingers”. They continued, “Now, put your hands together, palms up and scoop up as much sand as you can – as if you were going to give it away. What happens?”. I responded, “I have a heaping pile of sand.” They finished by saying, “That is the lesson of the sand. You always end up with more when you look to see how you can give away to others.”
So, just last week, during a Zoom call, my broker said to those on the call, “You guys should brainstorm together and learn from each other.” I was the first one to volunteer. We had our first meeting last week.
I used to love doing that back when I was selling in San Diego. The more I helped other agents, the more I learned and the better I became.
My dad taught me long ago that two 1” thick pieces of wood with opposing grains are always far stronger than one 2” thick piece of wood. When we can lean on and learn from each other, we all grow stronger. Now some choose not to join because they fear losing their advantage. Perhaps it is because they never knelt in the sand.
