Utah's Natural Spas: Simmer Down Now!
Utah has long been known for it's outdoor recreational opportunities, from foot races, hiking, cycling sports, water & snow skiing, bicycling, golfing, fishing to repelling and mountain climbing.
Not many people are in-the-know about the natural hot springs, dotting the scenic, hardscape across the state. Here are 3 spas to make a memorable trip for all who venture there.
Meadow Hot Springs - Fillmore, Utah | 80 - 100F
Located four miles south of Fillmore, Utah and on private property, the land owner grants free public access free of charge. Signs are posted at the main entrance and as long as the rules are followed Meadow Hot Springs will remain available. One of the springs is deep underground, allowing a little extra adventure. Visitors can also camp as long as the 'leave no trace' guideline is followed.
Homestead Crater - Midway, Utah | 93-94F year 'round
Situated inside a 55 foot limestone beehive-shaped formation, shaped over 10,000 years ago, this hot spring clearly proves that Utah is the beehive state! You can take paddleboard yoga classes, it is quite the balancing act, however. Also, enjoy scuba diving or snorkeling. Prices start at $16 to soak and more for equipment rentals. Homestead Crater is on my list of to-do's.
Mystic Hot Springs - Monroe, Utah | 92 - 102F
Hot spots are thought to have natural medicinal properties and often used to sooth aching joints and muscles. The calcified rock formations at Mystic Hot Springs were formed by the high mineral content of the water. For a fee, get access to an all day soaking in a tub or a pool. Cabin rentals and campsites are available to those who wish to prolong this most eclectic experience.
Put these natural spas on your list of places to frequent when visiting our be-Utah-ful state during the winter, whether for family fun, a romantic destination or singular outing. When someone tells me to simmer down now, I will gladly do so!
