Clothing Donations Needed
The Bloom Closet serves 90 counties in Georgia supplying clothing and other items to Foster Children. Last year they served over 3000 children out of the 12,000+ children who are in Foster Care in Georgia. The non-profit's history is a reflection of the good that can be achieved when one person gets a great idea. Alisha Lane hosts a YouTube tour of the Charity headquarters and explains about its mission.
This week volunteers are collecting donations in Atlanta in the Buckhead area. You may contact them (770-460-6652) to find out the address for drop-off. Or write to them by email at info@bloomouryouth.org. A List of items needed may be found at the end of this post. BTW - Boy's items are in very short supply.
Really could be a post of photos and captions.
Let's see:
Alisha Lane introduces Lauren Gwynn who is in charge of the store. She explains that the clothing must be in good to excellent condition. The goal is to boost the children's confidence by allowing them to "shop" for themselves. And shop for clothing they would be proud to wear.
The donations are processed in a workroom to be sure everything is in good condition before going into the store. Children may visit four times a year and receive a $250 voucher for each visit.
Covid Hands-Free delivery tent
The clothing area for teens looks like a high end boutique! Lauren says she loves working with her teens and seeing how happy they are to have choices. Since the children were able to try on the clothing (pre-Covid), Lauren was able to act a a personal shopper for several of them.
Everyone in the YouTube video about The Bloom Closet stresses how much benefit the Foster Children receive from being able to choose their own items.
