Herbert David Kelleher

Herbert David Kelleher was born in Camden, New Jersey back in 1931.  He was raised in Audubon, New Jersey graduating from Haddon Heights High School.  After graduation, he earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Wesleyan University.  He continued his education with a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law.

After graduation he clerked for a New Jersey Supreme Court Justice.  He moved to Texas, but I do not have the date.  In 1978, he was installed as Chairman of the Board of Southwest Airlines.  He stepped down in 2007, retiring.  In 2010 he was appointed chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.  He died in 2019, he was 87.

What you may not know about Herbert is that he was he co-founder, later chairman emeritus of Southwest Airlines.

Mr. Kelleher had great business sense and a good heart.  Southwest Airlines is a wonderful carrier. It's the only way to fly.

The airlines sure "ain't what they used to be" James Dray . I remember when it was glamorous to fly, stweardesses were beautiful/greaceful women, and it wasn't an invasion of privacy to walk into and thru an airport.

I knew this one...one of the most interesting stories about Kelleher is that he had a branding dispute with another airlines that was copying him.  Instead of a law suit, he suggested that they settle it chairman to chairman with arm wrestling.  They sold tickets to the event that went to charity and Kelleher won...A

James I did not remember the name but when  I saw the picture that Barbara Todaro posted the light went off yes I remembered that photo and the man... on a side note I flew on one of those planes and I see the planes landing daily at LAX, Endre
