National Wear Red Day For Women: February 5, 2021

The first Friday of each February (that's today, February 5th!) is National Wear Red Day as part of the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women® campaign to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease in women.

Heart disease is not primarily a male problem as so many think. Heart disease and strokes kill one in three women every year! Heart disease is known as the "silent killer" of women.  Did you know that cardiovascular disease in the U.S. kills approximately one woman every 80 seconds? Did you know that the American Heart Association says nearly 50% of American adults have some form of heart disease?

Fortunately, in the past 15+ years since National Wear Red Day was introduced, great strides have been made in raising awareness that heart disease and strokes are the number one disease affecting women.

Hi Nina,
I AM wearing red pants this morning but didn't realize I was raising awareness for heart disease in women. I used to wear a red blouse every Friday starting way back in the '70's. That was when I was clueless about a lot of things, including how prevalent heart disease is among women. Thanks for the informative post.

Hello Nina - awareness/recognition is certainly one of the first steps in addressing/combatting/conquering any problem and while they are far from succeeding with heart disease(for all genders), these are important steps.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... I do a post on this each year as I believe this is such an important issue. At this point with everything we know, way fewer women should be dying from cardivascular issues.

Michael Jacobs hi Michael... for sure, awareness is the first step. It just seems odd that with everything we know about heart disease and how to live more healthy, we still have so many Americans who suffer from it.

Morning Nina.

Missed it, no red for me yesterday.  I did drink water from a red cup if that counts?
