It's time to apply for homestead exemption in GA

Real Estate Agent with Harry Norman Realtors GA#255705 NC#204194

If you are a new home owner in Georgia, you may be eligible for a special property tax exemption in Georgia, called the homestead exemption, and I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the filing procedures required to take advantage of it. As the new owner of a home in 2020 you must apply for this exemption – it is not automatic.

The homestead exemption provides the homeowner a reduced taxable property value provided that:

1) The home is occupied by the homeowner on January 1, 2020 and

2) The homeowner applies for the homestead exemption in the county where the property is located.

The deadline to file for homestead exemption in most Georgia counties is April 1, 2020.

I encourage you to contact your local county tax commissioner or tax assessor’s office or visit their website to confirm the filing details for your county and take full advantage of this exemption. I hope this timely reminder serves to assist you in reducing your property tax bill.

Don't hesitate to call me if I can be of further assistance.
