Hi Nina,
It's always interesting to look at the breakdown of my property tax bill including schools, mental health, library, veteran's relief, fire, flood, and on and on. All that said, our tax rate in my county is one of the lowest in the state so I guess I shouldn't complain. I just wish they would adjust the order of some of their priorities when it comes to spending.

Nina we only have two towns here in CT that pay taxes in arears like you guys, all the other towns pay taxes in advance and every 6 months.  This means when they paid taxes last month (January 2021) they were paying taxes from 1/2021 to 6/2021.

Hi Nina Hollander - as you probably know New York hits us 3 times. Municipal due April 30, First half school taxes September, Second half January.  In Florida we pay the county and we get a max discount if we pay before November 30

Nina,

Yes, taxes are a certainty.  The hands of the various governmental agency both state and country are always out like mendicants and inventing new ways of picking our pockets.  A

Roy Kelley hi Roy... since our MLS does not include property taxes because they can be a moving target, I like to get this information out annually so people can get an idea of what the tax rates mean for their purchase.

Carol Williams hi Carol... supposedly we always have a say here on the annual budget, but I don't think much comes of it when people attend county meetings and say their piece at those meetings.

Nina Hollander,
It seems we can have our say but they're going to do what they want to do regardless of what we "say".

George Souto hi George... people moving here are always surprised that we pay taxes in arrears and only once per year... it always takes a bit of explanining on how that works.

Grant Schneider hi Grant... actually I didn't know that about NY taxes. I never owned real property in NY... just coops and the tax bill was paid by the cooperative and included in the cost of my monthly hoa fee.

Nina Hollander thank you.  I recall when we lived in Los Angeles, and the SF earthquake hit, 1989 our state government levied a 2 cent tax for a year to help SF.  The promise was that after a year, that would be taken off,  We still have that tax.  LOL A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... I've seen those "temporary" tax increases remain quite permanent for many yars in NYC and here in Charlotte.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS good moring, Paul... at least we're not a border state... so that part of Texas problems isn't impacting us (yet?). I'm very concerned that the new relaxed immigration regulations will bring more covid into our country and it will spread from the border states.

James Dray good morning, James... since we have so many county, town, and two state options where to buy property, people do pay attention to the tax rates. It can make a big difference from one county to another.

There sure are a lot of taxes in the world and sadly our politicians are in charge of designating where the money raised goes.

Nina, in Colorado taxes are paid by the mortgage holder, but if the home is paid off, April 30th is the due date.  Great post, taxes are a common topic.
