I'm feeling especially grateful and relieved to have received my second dose of Pfizer Covid vaccine this afternoon.
It was early morning at 1:30 AM, a month ago, that a family member called to say Kaiser had just opened up for appointments to my age group. I called right then and there. I was placed on hold for about 20 minutes before an attendant picked up. I was asked a series of questions and then abruptly told to call back at 6:00 AM. I dialed again at 6:45 AM. I was placed on hold for 40 minutes that time. But, I waited patiently, and the attendant provided me with the treasured appointment for my first shot at 2:45 PM on January 19th - the day before the inauguration.
About an hour after I successfully landed my first appointment, Others trying to obtain an appointment found it near impossible. There were wait times reported of up to 10 hours. And, ultimately folks were told there was now only a waiting list! I suspect an announcement that a gazillion vaccines which were to be released by the federal government, were found to not exist had quickly changed things.
Once I arrived at Kaiser in Roseville for my first shot on January 19th, things went exceptionally well. There were only 3 people in line before me. My shot was administered within 5 minutes of arrival. With an additional 15 minutes afterward to make certain there were no immediate side effects, I was back in my car, and on my way home within a half hour. At that appointment, Kaiser had booked my second shot, for today.
Today's experience was nearly the same. A few more folks were in line. Still within 10 minutes or so, I was sitting in the chair receiving my shot.
I must say how grateful I am for the medical frontline workers who are all working so very hard to make all this happen!
We got our first shots on Wednesday and hope to receive the next vaccinations on St. Patrick's Day. They are using Moderna in our area.

So happy that you were able to get the vaccine. Here, we continue to get the standard email for K saying how tough things are and only over 75. I am 74.5 and cannot get any appointments no matter what your health is. I have been in touch with K and even sent Bill Dodd, my state senator, and email. There seems to be a disproportionate low supply of the vaccine for K. No one seems to know why nor care. I am certain they are trying but K with 6.5M patients here in CA, they should be making a bigger stink. Just my 2 cents. Hope all else is well, cheers cvc

Good Saturday morning, Myrl.
Take care, be safe and have a very special weekend.
Looks like you were one of the lucky ones. I have been trying to get appointments for my sister and brother-in-law in Florida for over a month now, and each time I have tried...they are fully booked!

Good Sunday morning, Myrl.
Have a great day and an outstanding week. We have a sunny but very cold and icy morning in Maryland.
So happy to read your update that you had minimal side effects. That is fantastic, Myrl! They haven't called my age group yet, nor hubby's but, we are still being ever-so careful.
Congratulations!

Myrl Jeffcoat - So happy for you! I'm glad you didn't have any side effects. You always look good and healthy to me here on AR and you need to stay that way! Besides the mask, you always do take great photographs and I am convinced you are one of the lucky ones, always young!
Cheers to your good health and great life balance!

Congratulations on receiving your second shot Myrl Jeffcoat ! My sister is a medical professional and she had her shot early. She got really tired afterwards and had to rest. I hope you are doing well after the shot.

We are Kaiser members also, Myrl Jeffcoat, in the SF Bay Area. We made our appointments by phone after waiting with patience on hold. We were happy until we each got an email saying that they were allotting their inventory of vaccinations to those over 75, which we are not. We were told to stand by for future updates.
We were told by a friend of an opportunity through a local public health organization where were might get the vaccinations. Sure enough, we made the arrangements and we have now received the first shot. The second shot is scheduled for next week.

Only 2 more days until my 2nd vaccination and I will be glad to see how it feels and how long it's good for Myrl Jeffcoat
I hope you are doing well during the Days of the Dog on ActiveRain.
Dolores and are scheduled for our second Moderna vaccinations on the 17th, St. Patrick's Day.
Congratulations to you. I'm scheduled to get mine in 2 weeks and it can't come quick enough
Myrl, I understand your happiness. I am also so happy and grateful that I got my first Covid-19 vaccine last week. It was so easy here where we live. I went Online, there were appointments open all day long for the following day. We drove to the next town for the 10-11 am appointment... drove down a lane at the site, was 3rd in line, remained in our cars, checked in and verified, given the shot, remained in the car - still in line - for 15 minutes in case of any negative effects. It was a breeze...all done in less than a half hour without ever leaving the car. Second shot is scheduled for April 23rd. Myrl, I never felt the shot and had a daughter check my arm to see if there was any evidence I got the shot at all. Haha....
Pfizer seems to be the least troubling one and has the least side effects- congratulations
