What's a Coach Home? Is a Manor Home the same thing?

Real Estate Agent

What is a Coach Home anyway?

And while I'm asking what the heck is a Manor Home too?

I have many buyers ask me 'What is a coach home or a manor homecoach homes & manor homes anyway?'  It all started with Lexington Builders on the eastern edge of Schaumburg around 40+ years ago.  It was a new design concept for condos that were normally high rise's in our area.

A 'coach home' is simply a different name for a 'quad' or group of 4 condos put together.  In the coach home layout there are 2 condos on the 1st floor and 2 condos on the 2nd floor.  Then 2 of these groups of 4 are put together side by side for a total of 8 and 'voila' the coach home!  Some other builders in the area also spun the name 'Manor Home' but it is the same concept. (Building plan attached below).

There are 4 to 8 models in each building and the home could be located either on the 1st (patios) or 2nd floors (balconies).  Each model has something unique to offer having closet pantries, open wall Kitchens, formal Dining Rooms, vaulted ceilings, 9 foot ceilings, whirlpools in luxury baths, walk-in closets, window seats.  A private one car garage is always included with each home.

Just want to be clear that this is not a trailer park or any type of manufactured units all bunched together in an odd pattern.

coach home,manor home,

Schaumburg has the most coach home communities to choose from and there are even some built in Palatine, Roselle, Bartlett, Elk Grove and Arlington Heights too.

Some Schaumburg communities that I have written about:

Glens of Schaumburg
Fox Run
Lexington Green
Lexington Village
Heatherwood Estates West
Towne Place
Towne Place West

OK, so ready for a test?  You look at these Schaumburg coach homes & manor homes for sale and let me know which ones are 'coach homes'.  I'll be able to show you any of these homes that you find interesting.

Hello Lyn - "local" definitely matters in real estate.  The term "coach" and "manor" would definitely need explanation in our market.

It is a confusing concept for people coming into our area. Once they see one, they get it. Condo building of 8 that's it.

It's so interesting the local names our builders come up with for these types of things. Had never heard the terms coach home or manor home until now.

Like Chris Ann Cleland - this is a new term for me too - not something we have in the DC Metro area

I didn't know what either of them were before reading your post, but now I do, thanks to you!

Not sure where else they are built but I'm sure it can't only be here outside Chicago. It's an OK concept & buyers think it's better than a high rise.

I had no idea what a coach home is.  I think it is much better than a high rise, and Paul Simon's song line comes to mind. "one man's ceiling is another man's floor!"  Happy Thursday.  A

Thank you for the education.  I had no idea, but now that you mention the name, I think we have some in our Elk Grove here in CA too.

hi Lyn- Larry's daughter's inlaws have a coach home in Naples and I love it. The design is such that you never feel as if someone is above you.
