Preaching from the throne? Before you preach set the example is my take

The other day I saw a post being Featured on how to behave on Active Rain. While I  appreciate those members,  who participated and were kind enough to give it a like or a praise, I am not in agreement.

www.endrebarath.com

I am very selective in who I will send referrals; in a nutshell, it is someone who has the same work ethic as I do, it does not matter to me if  that person is an Ambassador on Active Rain. It is not about the points., rather it is about who will deliver the high bar of customer service that do.  Over the past 15 plus years I have been on Active Rain, quite a few agents have received referrals from me.

Now let us talk about how to support other members:

  1.     Make a comment and make the comment be kind and supportive of the post. I do not mean the robo commenter who only wants to get points for their comments: rather, it is about the Lou Ludwig style, making the person feel good and help him out with a comment and putting a like to their post that is being supportive. (Just on a side note  I miss our friend Lou Ludwing he  was a gentleman’s gentlemen). This not only helps with SEO as well as for the stalkers who just read and watch, they see the character or the lack of character of a person.  In simple terms,  interact with genuine comments.
  2.     Team Player -  Quite frankly by not supporting or not commenting on other member’s post but preaching from the throne is not being a team player. Over the years,  I had  opportunities to send referrals to various parts of the country. If you cannot be supportive of other agents posts and interact with them, why would you pass on  a referral? I receive an email almost daily from the Berkshire Hathaway Network where an agent is looking for good agents in various markets.
  3.     I do not preach about politics, I choose to write about what I consider fun stuff such as cooking, pets, sports, reading and real estate. I get many inquiries and the person who reaches out to me tells me that feel like they know me. Hence the reason why they reached out to me. So not only am I a no-nonsense business style agent, I also have another side that I am happy to share.
  4.    There was an agent on this platform who had strength of character and said to me how funny it was that when I was in High School, I did not have as many ‘friends’ as I do now on this platform and the other social media platforms. My take on that is if I asked all these social media friends to help me out because I was in financial distress how many friends would I have left?  Something to think about.  I hold my friends close, I’m not on social media to be a collector of friends or an influencer.

I won’t drill the point home any longer; you get my message; only real people are in my inner circle those with morals and character.  Those of you who regularly read my post know that I recently closed my first transaction for the year. It  was an Active Rain Referral, and I am so grateful for the referral and the trust that was placed in me.

Those same people also know I am a no-nonsense Realtor in Beverly Hills who will look out for your client’s best interest. It is not about anything more than taking the best care of the clients. This formula works for me with referrals from both Active Rain and the sphere of influence of these clients. So, take the post written by the Active Rain Ambassador with a grain of salt. Talk is cheap actions speak louder than words. Genuine caring and supporting the community is the way to go at least in my book.

This is really hilarious & it's the pot calling the kettle black. Last week you insulted a long AR member on a comment that was totally uncalled for. If you had know then backstory on that, the members husband had passed away not too long ago.

I'm going to agree with Chad above.

I feel like no comment is adequate to your post - and  wish I had gotten to post the driveby comment that Liz and Bill Spear posted - Still - from an Army brat to a West Point Grad - I definitely enjoyed the post -

All the Active Rain points in the world don't make me want to pick up the phone and hit the top of the list when it comes referral time.  Like you said, though in a different way, it is how a person represents themselves here or on social media.  If you are going to get outraged over things beyond your control and can't let them go, that tells me you may have buckets of drama for your real estate deals.

I pay attention to what's said, how it is said and how someone conducts themselves.  The digital world makes it very easy to see a lot of someone, and sometimes, too much in my opinion.  When it comes to AR or social media, there are eyes on you all the time.

Great post here, and a lot of food for thought.  It was hard for me to be in the Rain often in 2020 because low inventory kept us crazy--I've enjoyed this little bit of time in winter to reconnect.

What an interesting post from a Rainmaker. You seem to be someone that would be easy to trust with a referral. I hope I will have one to send you.

Endre, I am in agreement with you. Keep it business and honest, share lifestyle, properties, leave politics out of the picture, even in these crazy times. Oh good job on social media.

Well, I missed the hypocrisy in the post you are referring to, Endre! I will say that I chuckled out loud at #4. I don't know who said that to you but, they have rather large one! LOL

I will say that there are a few folks here that I think if I phoned them, asking for help, they would come through for me. You and Diane would be in that group. It's not about collecting 'followers;' it's all about the relationships!

Spoke with E today - LOVE her! She adores you too...

This was a great post. While I have communicated with you in the past, I never knew where you were located since I didn't take the time to look. I am often overwhelmed by the number of great AR agents that I cannot always remember where everyone is from. In reading your post, I now know where your business is located and will keep it in mind should I ever need anagent in that part of the country!

I also arrived late to the party.  Reading through your post and then the comments gives me lots of food for thought to digest.

Hi Endre- been a tough week here in Texas but I am glad I am able to catch up. I don't know about the post that you are referring to but I know that I have always enjoyed reading your posts. I have referred people to agents here and have had a few agents contact me wanting to know if I knew an agent when I was living in Delray Beach.

Great post Endre. I would gladly refer you someone, because I know you would take good care of them! The problem is I have only seen 1 LA - SE NC move in 5 years. That one was an inbound walk in

After reading your post I had to take a few moments to think about a comment. You are right, of course, I don't leave drive-by comments, never have & never will, but it's definitely easier to respond to fun posts than to craft a thoughtful response to a post such as this one. Sometimes I can't find the right words and think it best to leave without a comment rather than posting something meaningless. Other times I just get too busy, I don't mean to not reciprocate but it happens occasionally. Then I try to make up for it another time.

The referrals I have sent were mostly to members I've followed and interacted with a great deal. Those turned out great! Client happy = agents happy. A couple of times I got burned, however, one person was not who they appeared to be on virtual paper, and another turned out to be totally unresponsive. That was not a good look - for all of us.

I've been away from ActiveRain for a few months and so I think I (like others) I may be late to the party ... however, I have to agree with so much of your post.  It's all about relationship -- not points.  I have worked with a few people in AR who have many points and that does not tell the whole story. Hi Endre Barath, Jr., I don't know the post you're referring to but I'm in agreement with you. I pay attention to how people act on SM, which tells me a lot about their character.  We can't please everyone nor should we try to do so, the best thing we could do is to do the right thing.

I like the subject of this post, Endre.  And, like others have mentioned, I am especially taken with your #4.  I wasn't very popular in high school either.  My interests seemed different from most.  In today's world, my friends are selected from those who are honest and have integrity.  It works when choosing work associates as well.

So well said Endre.  I steer clear of politics for sure!  This is an honest post.  I am picky who I send referrals to, as well.  I want people to be taken care of and taken care of well.
