Having a place to call home is a necessity in life. However, owning a home is no small feat! Affording a home means saving up which can be difficult to do since living is so expensive but if you focus and follow these few steps those new keys will be in your hand sooner than you would have thought.
Get out of Debt: If you have a credit card from college that is hanging over your head it's time to look at seriously paying it off. I know how tempting it can be to spend the money on something else but not only will that bill be behind you it will improve your credit!
Set a Goal: "New House" is not exactly the goal I have in mind. $20,000 is something more tangible to aspire to. When you break it up into money increments you can change your goal making it more and more expanding your home budget more than you would have thought.
Start Early: Maybe this is your sign to start today! If you plan on owning a home in the next 5 years try saving $200 a month just for your home and in 5 years you will have saved $13k! That's just the start but it sets a strong base!
Eat at Home and Plan Your Meals: This one really can save you $100's to put towards a home or anything really. I use to spend $50 a night on groceries now I Spend $50 a week by planning the weeks meals in advance. It cuts costs a lot but I will say it will make you want to up your kitchen budget when looking into a new home.
