Saturday Smiles: First Signs of Spring!

By

We have noticed that the days are getting longer.  We spotted the plum tree beginning to bloom.  It is always a lovely sight to behold.  In town the coral trees with their reddish/orange blooms are flanked by dogwoods trees in full bloom.

In the wine country, we are spotting clumps of California poppies along the roads, and in the vineyards workers are busy pruning the canes of the vines.  Soon, they too will start budding.

"And Spring arose on the garden fair,
Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;
And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast
rose from the dreams of its wintry rest."

~ Percy Bysshe Shelley

Wishing eveyone an abundance of Saturday Smiles!

What a promise of Spring in this post. Thank you. Finnegan and I managed plenty of outside time today in between the showers. I kept thinking how wonderful it's going to be to see things blooming again.

Michael Jacobs Everyday, there is something new to discover.  When we used to let out our family dog, I always marveled at how he cautiously smelled the air before taking a step out.  I realized he was assessing the changes...Our cats did the same.  So now we do that too, we note the subtle changes, it focuses one in the now...A

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD Send us your showers.  Both reservoir lakes look full, but I want to see an overflow happen.  We have had major winds with small craft advisories, as well as small car advisories.  I will have to water again on Monday...A

Yes, I found them near my driveway last year. I followed all the instructions to clip them and allow/encourage more to grow. We'll see what happens this year!

This morning while I was driving around doing a few tasks, I noticed things beginning to climb out of winter sleep.  There were yellow dafodils which especially grabbed my attention.

Myrl Jeffcoat when we lived in the Napa Valley, I would often notice clumps of yellow daffodils along the highways.  That would be the first sign of spring, before the vines would start breaking into buds.  A

We are so looking forward to getting our yard up to snuff this season. First we had to have 6 or 7 trees cut down due to the extreme heat last summer. Very sad to see them all gone. But....we'll be planting more soon (different ones this time). Who knew palm trees could die due to extreme heat.  Never saw that before.  And our incredibly beautiful Brazillian pepper tree....I miss that one the most, it was full of birds....and so fun to watch the bird condo action in the evenings!
