“Who is wise? He will realize these things. Who is discerning? He will understand them. The ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walk to them but the rebellious stumble in them.”
When reading the Old Testament like in Hosea, its a different way of the Lord calling his people back. The call out to the people who have drifted away from God is in a different tone than what it was with many of the writers in the New Testament on how God called people back. Yet you will notice that people are often needing to be called back to the ways of the Lord.
Why do we drift? What makes us stumble? Knowing this for you and for others will give you the grace needed to hear the Lord’s calling back. Wisdom comes from the learning and growing we do. Sometimes the failings build character, strength, and hope. Then when future distractions and traps cross our path we have a better ability to be discerning and stay on the path of God!
We know the ways of the Lord are right by now. With wisdom and discernment we can walk to them and stay on the path. When we see someone in the world not following rules that seem to work perfectly we would call them rebellious. Rebelling does not make a person a bad person, and kicked out of the kingdom of God, but rebelling normally will cause a person to stumble. How often have we stumbled? Thus, we do not judge, but rather grow and learn from it and get back on the path of wisdom and discernment again and walk with God!
