So I get this email today from a friend of mine who says she got if from old friends who moved back to Iowa 5 years ago.

Q: What's missing in Iowa?

The place is flooded. Homes, businesses, crops, and lives are in ruin, yet Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are nowhere to be seen.
Every photo I have seen shows determined people working together to save their homes and communities.
No one has cried for the government to save their butt.
There is no looting, raping, murdering, or shooting.
No need for a sundown to sunrise curfew.
The government hasn't gone door-to-door confiscating all weapons.
The governor of Iowa hasn't asked for $175 billion ($100 K per person) to rebuild the state.
Nobody blames the government for failed levees.
There aren't conspiracy theories claiming the feds planned the floods on purpose.
No prisons have released all their prisoners into the streets.
Half the population hasn't relocated to neighboring states.
What's missing here, why is this so different than New Orleans/Louisiana ?
A: Apparently Iowa, a red state, has fallen through the cracks and missed out on the federal Victim Mentality Education Programs in the schools.

Must be Bush's fault....

I have a handle on your market!!!

WOW, what a great take on the way I grew up and was taught that my neighbor was special to me.  We had a flood in Denver when I was 15 that took out a lot of the homes, businesses, and bridges along the Platte River.  I spent that summer working to clean upt the mess left behind and now that you write this, I realized I didn't get paid for it.  It was just what we did.  I guess that is why I hate the government being involved in anything a community should handle on its own as much as possible.

Great post but you better watch out if that water flows the way it normally does or there will be more victims along the Mississippi again.  Maybe the government will blow up a couple more levees again to get rid of those unwanted characters down stream.

Great post Lazarus!! What a great way to put things in perspective. I learned the value of a neighbor in Montana. When disaster strikes, you pull together and help each other out!
