On February 25 2021, National Association of Realtors® (NAR) reported that nationwide pending contract signed home sales down 2.8% to an index of 122.8 in January of 2021 from an index of 103.2 in December of 2020, and rose 13.0% from January of 2020.
Pending home sales index in the Northeast dropped 7.4% to an index of 101.6 in January of 2021 from December 2020, but higher 9.6% from January of 2020.
Pending home sales index in the Midwest lower 0.9% to an index of 113.2 in January of 2021 from December 2020, and increased 8.6% from January of 2020.
Pending home sales index in the South grew 0.1% to an index of 151.3 in January of 2021 from December 2020, and jumped 17.1% from January of 2020.
Pending home sales index in the West fell 7.8% to an index of 104.6 in January of 2021 from December 2020, but gained 5.5% from January of 2020, according to NAR on February 25, 2021.
Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, stated "These trends, along with an anticipated ramp-up in home construction will provide for much-needed supply."
