Are You Living In The Present Moment?

Many of you are probably answering this question with a yes and wondering why I am asking this.  Where else in time would you be?

Believe it or not, there are those of us that do not live in the moment.  You may be there physically, but mentally?

How many times have you been driving down the road and you are thinking about what items are on your to do list that need your attention?  Or how about when you are thinking about looking forward to the event you will be attending during the weekend?  Or even when you are trying to figure out what went wrong with the transaction that fell apart?  During these times, is your mind on your driving and watching the road?

This is a lesson I have learned from my horses over the years.  When I am spending time with my horse, I have to be present in the moment, not having my mind wander to things in the future or the past.  If I do not keep my mind on the present, my horse will mirror me by having his mind wander.  There is a possibility that I may miss something truly remarkable or the situation may turn into disaster.  I need to be present with him in the moment and enjoy the pleasure.

How many moments have I lost enjoying things around me because my mind was occupied with the past or the present?  When I am in the present moment, I am able to take the time of enjoying what is around me.  This in turn will help me to relax and relieve the stress.

As you walk through life, take the opportunities of the present moment to enjoy what life has to give us.  Enjoy the fresh new snowfall, the birds singing, the color and beauty of the flowers, wildlife, a child's first steps, etc.  There are so many things we miss if we do not live in the moment.

Remember, once we miss that moment, it is gone forever and we will never get it back.  We only live once, so enjoy it while you can.

Live In The Present Moment!

Hello Brigita - I get this!  Although it is not so easy to demonstrate each moment, it remains important nonetheless.  A good reminder to be in the "now".

Hi, Kathy!

At times, I wander from living in the moment by worrying about things that are out of my control.  When I realize it, then I work on coming back into the present moment.

Hi, Michael!

We are human and at times we wander away from living in the present moment.  As long as we find our way back, we are good.
