We wanted to remind everyone to periodically check your credit reports for any unauthorized accounts. You can obtain a free credit report from each of the 3 largest credit bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax) on the website www.annualcreditreport.com. Many clients (including myself) also freeze their credit bureau account so no one has access to your reports. It's easy and free to do so. Then if you are applying for something that requires a credit check, typically you can choose an option such as "unfreeze my account for 2 weeks" so that you don't even have to make efforts to go back and refreeze. When I bought my new car, I asked them which credit bureau they used, and then simply unfroze that single account for 2 weeks.
