On Aisle Nine. . .  



Another press release has informed me that normal is being eliminated.  Yes, Unilever, the international company known for all kinds of products from I Can't Believe It’s Not Butter to Ben and Jerry’s and far, far beyond issued a press release last week. 



In case you hadn’t read or heard - the end of normal has been officially announced.  And not a moment too soon.  



What will I do?  Sweat it out?  There’s likely a cure for that in the medicine cabinet from the company.   Pop a pill.  They have a solution too.   Am I heaping on the company with more than a bit of sarcasm?  Well, the company certainly is known for spreading it with mayonnaise, right? 

 

It seems normal is rather close to that other and often flaunted feature - perfect. Yes, normal and perfect. I remember those promises.

Hmm, I have never even heard of that company and didn't even know that they made all of those products.  Just from even knowing that they make all of those products and the likelihood that they are not natural and more chemicals than real food makes me not want to be a fan of them at all.

I hadn't heard of this, but just took a look at their site and message. I bet there are a lot of people who will think this is wonderful and visa versa. I looked through their products and realized the only one (someone in my house) can't live without is Breyer's. Apparently no other ice cream will do.

Hi Michael, 

A couple of days ago, that phrase "new normal" hit me between the eyes so I pondered on it... I decided that whatever I do IS normal.  I won't allow anyone to tell me what normal is or how it should be defined.  What it tells me is that someone else is trying to tell me what normal is or should be.  I don't think so!

Who even knows what "normal" is anymore???

I give them credit for the research (if they did it) and the ad campaign. Seems to fit right in with the world right now. I don't think they are fooling anyone, though. We all know it is a media campaign.

All of this craziness is giving me a stomach ache, Michael! Do you have anything to treat that upset stomach that Unilever doesn't sponsor?

 

My entire adult life, I stood up for MYSELF. I pulled myself - and, more importantly, my toddler boys - out of a terribly abusive relationship...again, MYSELF! I earned job promotions as a single parent, MYSELF. I earned pay raises as a single parent MYSELF. You get my drift..why do we have to coddle everyone? Why does everyone seem to want notoriety for 'their cause?' Those causes are 'issues' that you and I have learned to overcome on our own. I don't need, nor do I WANT, someone using me to push/pursue their cause. 

 

Did I say this PC crap is giving me a stomach ache?!!

Hello Debe(and Wanda too) - i appreciate your comments.  I don't know how the Unilever marketing decision is being "judged" in the real world but here with the comments/thoughts expressed in this post, it seems to be more than a bit of a "fail".   Hmm...it seems the marketers could do some more research.  Interesting.  Once again.

And, @Michael Jacobs, there are a lot of people - marketing, media and politicians - who need to do REAL research. Not just the cursory, superficial research that they are doing within their own bubbles. You learn more about the real world when you actually venture out INTO IT!!
