60 years ago, the majority of areas in America had 3 TV stations to choose from. 1 for ABC, 1 for CBS and one for NBC. A few areas even had a fourth for PBS. And those lucky elite had a 5th or 6th that were independent.
Some younger folks are having a stroke at this time wondering how anyone ever lived with less than 200 TV channels. But wait, kids – it gets worse!
There were actually parts of the country where you could only get 2 or even (gasp) 1 channel. But wait, kids – it gets worse!
When you turned on the TV, it had to warm up. Taking 30 or dare I even say 60 seconds to warm up so that you could see the picture. Then when the picture came on, you had to (by hand) turn the channel nob to change the channel. THEN, the channel may not be clear and so you had to adjust a dial to try to get the channel in as clear as you could. If you watched a half hour program, you would have to actually get up off the couch, turn the channel nob to get the next station that you wanted and then adjust the fine-tuning dial to get the picture as clear as you could.
I thought of all this today as I thought of my business. It seems I had forgotten to adjust my fine tuning. I had turned to the channel that I wanted to get my business from, but the connection was fuzzy at best. Lately, using that fine tuning, I suddenly get a better connection with my customers. The fine little adjustments can make a huge difference. If you had seen people watch TV in the 60s, you might have known that.
