Good Words Go A Long Way

Good wrods go a long way

“ Good words are worth much, and cost little. ”

~George Herbert

As many of you may know, my passion is horses.  I tend to get "green" horses.  (For those non-horsey people, this means that they are trained in bare basics and need more training and experience.)

Now, there are different methods for training horses, as it is with any animal.  The only difference is that I use kind words, along with patience and calmness in training them.  If I would be harsh and use unkind words, it would most likely end up in a fight and nothing would really get accomplished or learned.  Using kind words, I find, helps them learn quicker and enjoy the time together, which is the key.

The same works for personal and business life. I find when someone uses bad words, tension rises along with bad tempers.  Nothing gets accomplished.

If you use the kind, good words, others will appreciate being with you and will want to work with you, no matter what the situation.

Just think about it.  If someone spoke bad words to you, would you be willing to work with them?  Or, with someone who spoke to you with kind words?  Do you think you would get more done using patience and kind words?

Plus, kind words do not cost you a red cent, but they are worth a lot.

How's that for a good deal?

"Kind" is a great choice of words, even if you have to impart bad news, but still your your message across.  There are times to be "forceful" but it can be done kindly.

In the past year, I have heard the term "wordsmithing" more than all of my prior years combined so there is something to this word thing!!!

My mom and I were just speaking the other day how majestic horses are, to be so powerful yet can be so kindled in spirit and I'm sure that's attributed to being treated kindly and shown love. You can see so much in their eyes, what a terrific post. Thank you for sharing! The picture is serene, just gorgeous... perfect for the post. :)

My dad and step mom just adopted a dog.  She is very well-behaved and sweet as can be.  The problem, someone abused the poor thing and it must have been bad.  There is little joy in her life at the present.  If a guy walks in the room, she gets up and leaves.  The only person she has bonded to a bit is my step mom.  It will take some time and a lot of loving words and actions, but she is already getting better.  It is hard to believe anyone could be so mean to such a sweet animal.  She has won the lottery, though, with my dad and step mom who we lovingly call, "Wicked."  She is just the opposite and a perfect mom for Charlotte.

Hi, Ray!

It is so nice to have people like you adopt a pet, especially one that has been abused in the past, and work with it.  It looks like there may be hope for your dog.  Unfortunately, some animals end up not trusting anyone after being rescued from an abusive life.  Keep working with your pet.  I am sure she will get better with time.  Wishing you the best with her.

Love your post!  Simple, great analogy and a good message.  I've found in the past that dealing with harsh words is no fun so I choose not to use that method to get my point across - as do you!
