We have all known people who live in the past. Some glorify and embellish "the good all days", some regret the choices they made, and some blame and resent others for the situation they find themselves in.
The past is alive and well in their present. The past becomes their means of justifying their self created "now" misery! This is not an "age" thing, although using age or money is a great way to justify one's inability to move on.
In less extreme situations, there are those who feel that with every mistake, every relationship problem, they have to retrace the situation from the beginning and start over. This works well if one is in the process of figuring out a mathematical or scientific problem.
In life, it is wiser to just move on and begin again from where one is now. Simply said, if one is on their way to the East Coast from the West Coast and find themselves heading North to Canada, there is no reason to retrace one's steps by going back to their starting point in Oregon.
