One of the almost hidden jewels of living in the Los Gatos Mountains is Lexington Elementary School. It belongs to the Los Gatos Union School District and is the smallest campus. The school is nestled in a serene, picturesque setting above Lexington Reservoir. There are approximately 145 students (slightly more coming in for the 2008 school year) which makes for a quaint and close-knit setting. In a very short period of time, a parent gets to know the names and faces of almost an entire school. And how neat it is that the principal knows the names of all the children!
Our Home and School Club is a dynamic and strong organization that puts on wildy successful fundraising and "just for fun" events including Food, Wine, and Song, Day on the Green (antique car show and auction), Halloween parade and party, and Fun Day! This past year set a new record raising around $50,000! These funds go toward some of the larger campus specific programs like our Spanish program for all grades, Life Lab, and others! The amount of parent involvement is incredibly high, and being a former teacher myself, I can say it makes such a differnce!
Our school is proud to belong to The International Baccalaureate Program of which only 7 schools in California are a member of. Many school officials from out of state visit our campus to witness this very special program which incorporates six organizing themes to develop student-based inquiries. The curriculum is challenging and relevant to the students. Since its inception, we have even witnessed even better STAR test scores!
The word-of-mouth about this school continues to spread and there is even a waiting list of families "in town" in Los Gatos who are waiting to join our special school. If you'd like to learn more, visit the Lexingon's website at http://www.lex.lgusd.k12.ca.us/
