UPDATE: Voices from the Flood: Small Number= Big Hopes

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with www.obeo.com

Wendell and Michelle were up at Scotties' Eat-Mor for lunch.

Wendell, sunburnt and tired, but looking a bit more rested,

gave us the news.

"It's down."

"We can sleep at night, and not be so anxious," Michelle said.

They have gotten their letter rejecting their flood claim from their insurance carrier,

and are going to try to refinance their home to get back on their feet.

Wendell is going back to work this Saturday.

No rain is forecast.

There are fundraisers in town this week at a local tavern,

a mattress truckload sale;

...a gas station is giving vouchers good for 5 gallons fo gas for those

that are using generators to run their pumps.

And there was practically a riot when they were

handing out food vouchers for those in flood areas in Milwaukee.

The helicopters are still buzzing in during the day.

There is still standing water in, well, too many homes and businesses.

Five inches.

The river in Ft. Atkinson is down five inches.

And there are still plenty of problems downstream.

Whole towns wiped out.

No cause to celebrate, but plenty of reason to hope-here, now, anyway.

Thanks for all of those who have stopped by with kind words, offered prayers

and their best wishes.

We send them on to all those living in the neighborhood on the river, or levee, everywhere.

Steve

Steve.  You are doing an awesome job with this series.  I blogged about you blogging about this on my blog...  Keep it up.  You are letting the rest of us know what is happening there... and not from the CNN perspective.

Steve - I missed this series of yours - time to catch up.

That is a heartbreaking picture and the NO OUTLET sign is so appropriate.

I lived in the south of Mississippi, went through Hurricane George.  Luckily moved before Katrina.

It is kind of you to make this very personal plight known and remind us to count our blessings.

I have followed the story on Fox and CNN.  It is certainly diferrent to hear a local perspective.  I wish all of you good luck and get back on your feet soon.

By the way, do you have an outside blog that I can add to my blog roll?

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts about the world of real estate.

James,

Thanks so much for taking time out to look at the big picture of the story. I was lucky enough to have an ireport and be on CNN twice in the same day becasue of the story that I was living in with my neighbors and friends.

Getting the story out is what makes the help come.

Thanks,

Steve

I have really enjoyed reading your blog.   I am relatively new to AR and have noticed you have received a lot of points and have achieved a remarkable high ranking. Congratulations!   May I ask if you have had success in turning your high ranking into business?   I am curious if it has been a profitable venture personally as well as financially.   Thanks for sharing and best of luck in your business.
