Schaumburg maintains more than 1,100 acres across 100 parks, including nearly 300 acres of preserved natural areas throughout it's park district.
The Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary, is a prairie wild life preserve and an indoor and outdoor museum. This is the place to rent snow shoes & take them for a spin if you've never tried them. Bison Bluff is a nature playground also located on the grounds.
Also nearby is the Heritage Farm which is a fully operational farm right out of the 1880's. Kids are gonna love it! Horses, pigs, chickens are here for interaction.
(video from WGN-9). The Park District also operates four community recreation centers, including the Water Works Oasis, a spectacular indoor pool facility. The Sport Center which has indoor baseball, soccer fields and basketball courts is truly phenomenal. Golf courses, racquetball courts, summer boat rentals, and three outdoor swimming pools also are under the district's jurisdiction.
We get pretty 'artsy' at the Prairie Arts Festival - An annual 2-day juried arts show and sale, featuring the work of more than 150 artists which is held during the Memorial Day Weekend. Septemberfest is held on Labor Day weekend with fireworks, the arts festival, carnival rides and parade.
Into cycling? We're known for our Bike Paths & Routes - Schaumburg is known for it's extensive system of 85 miles of bike paths, many extending through parks and connecting public and historic locations. Not only you need exercise! How about taking the dog to the Dog Park? Bring your dogs to get off leash exercise, play and socialize with other dogs. There is a sandy beach surrounding the pond & a boat dock that the dogs will love to jump off. A gazebo where you can have lunch & take a rest. An annual pooch permit allows you and your canine companion to enjoy this great facility.
Town Square is located within the Olde Schaumburg Centre Historic District serving as the village's official "downtown". Town Square is also home to the second largest public library in Illinois: The Schaumburg Township District Library. The library, along with the Trickster Art Gallery and Farmers Market, are regional destinations for cultural programs and resources, which amounts to over 1 million visitors per year.
