Hotchkiss Field, Prospect CT, Offering Recreation for All Seasons
Located at the intersection of Waterbury Rd and Scott Rd, just before the center of Prospect on Waterbury Rd is Hotchkiss Field. This town managed recreation area was a gift of the Hotchkiss family, who donated a portion of their farm for the 'Public Good.'
At all hours of the day, one can find people taking walks or jogging around the oval track. You can see older couples taking their casual walks; younger couples pushing high wheeled carriages as the 'family' gets its fresh air and exercise. The tracks circle the athletic fields and are set up with a full mile oval with intersecting paths for those that are less ambitious.
Just off the main entrance and parking lot are the basketball courts, where there is always somebody looking for a quick pick-up game.
There are 6 soccer fields which with different sized nets to accommodate 'kickers' of all ages on weekends.
With a grove of trees and tables positioned underneath, a warm picnic is a possibility while the kids play in the park.
Field of Dreams sits at the back of the soccer fields. This is a play-scape created with funds donated by the businesses in Town. It’s completely child friendly and the only problem would be gathering the kids to leave.
For the winter months, an ice skating area is located at the rear of the complex. The signs at the entrance of the park let all know when the skating is permitted.
Due to the pandemic, people are cautioned to take proper precautions while at the park, including practicing social distancing and wearing masks, and police will be patrolling the park to ensure people are adhering to guidelines.
