Lookout Park: The Best Little Park in Summerland!

By

This is an entry in this month challenge, hosted by Kathy Streib and Hannah Williams.   Thank you both.

Summerland is the next village after Carpinteria heading North towards Santa Barbara.  It has a population of 1545, and a beautiful 4 acre coastline cliff park.  Lookout Park is usually open from Sunrise to Sunset.

Recently the county upgraded the Eastern side of the park to include additional barbecue grills, a bocce court and two ping pong tables.  We loved the creative use of the driftwood for the top beams on the gazebos (pictured above).

The park also has access to the beach, hiking trails, restrooms, a shower for those wanting to wash off the sand on their way up from the beach, plenty of picnic tables and more barbecue grills.  It is a dog friendly park.

At one time the beach was a nudist beach.  Now bathing suits are required.  Horses and other equines are allowed on the beach.  It is a joy to watch them gallop in the surf.  If you don't have a horse, you can rent them at Summerland Beach Rides.

Wow, how beautiful! The color of the water is just marvelous.  I would love to visit this small Summerland Paradise and ride a horse on the beach with the wind in my hair and the sun on my face

Hello Alexandra and Ron - it seems as if the recent improvements at Lookout Park in Summerland California will be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.  Simple pleasures and wonderful location are a winning combination in my opinion.

Hannah,

I like stopping there.  We often drop our mail off at the Summerland Post Office.  It is an easy on and off ramp of the freeway.  We can head down to the park and sit a spell or two...A

Bill,

By Santa Barbara County parks this is very small and very mighty so to speak with a shoreline that is not crowded, because the way back is steep.  A

Michael,

It is one more pace to enjoy, different than our beach, but just as lovely.  We can walk from our beach there.  That would amount to 6 miles each way!  Perhaps we will do that one day.  A

Hi Ron and Alexandra- if we lived in the area, I can tell you that Larry and I would stop by there often!!! I love the view and love that they continue to add little improvements. I have always wanted to ride a horse on the beach.

Thank you for participating in the April Challenge.

Kathy,

Like Hannah and you stated, I think it would a blast to ride a horse on the beach.  I have watched the horses as they skim the water, and I could feel their joy as well as the riders simultaneously.  It is a beautiful sight to behold.  A

Jeff Dowler, CRS there is a romantic feeling of riding a horse on the beach, and especially since the horse looks like it is meant to do that. A

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD we pass by it often, and we can see it from the freeway.  I am always delighted to see UPS, FEDEX, and other trucks there around lunch time enjoying the beauty of our coast. A
