Friday Photo: The Edible Bromeliad!

Not long ago, I wrote a post on bromeliads and mentioned that the pineapple is a bromeliad.  This morning on our visit to Trader Joe's, they had an enormous table full of organic pineapples, as pictured above.

The pineapple has long symbolized hospitality and welcome!  It also is a symbol of luxury.  This is because they only grew in climates like Hawaii.  They were rare in Europe and very expensive, when available.

Pineapples were also a symbol of beauty.  Look at the symmetry of their outer shell and perfectly spaced they are in outlined.  As they ripen they turn yellow.

Happy Friday Everyone

Hannah,

We agree.  I remember on my first time in Hawaii tasting a pineapple.  It was ambrosia.

Ed,

There is a special way to cut it.  I once saw a video on it, and have followed that system ever since.  It is easier that way.  A

Ah yes - pineapples, the edible bromeliads.  A couple weeks ago, my local Bel Air grocery store had beautiful ones on sale.  It was hard to only buy just one.

Morning Alexandra.

I do like pineapple with cottage cheese.  It makes a great combination.

Good morning, Alexandra... I once spent two weeks in Hawaii and by the end of it was pretty much "done" with pineapples. I eat them now, but rarely. :) You see them in decor frequently in South Carolina as a sign of welcome.

I was going to say, like James Dray, mom loves cottage cheese and pineapple. I often include a little salad with her sandwich at lunch.
