Wordless Wednesday...Here’s Lookin’ At Ya!

After our snow and freeze earlier this year, Larry was trimming our Sago Palms, he almost stepped on this little fella.

Moth or butterfly??? It’s hard for me to tell the difference. I did find some information here about how to tell the difference.

For me, Mother Nature is hands down the most creative artist.

You are right mother is the best artist.  I think it is a  butterfly but regardless it is beautiful.

Hi Sharon- after I read what the difference is, I think it's a butterfly.

How beautiful! We went for a walk a few days ago and saw two pretty butterflies. It's definitely spring when they start flying around!

I've always thought of butterflies as very colorful and moths as boring brown. Perhaps there's more to it than that.  LOL

I thought the same Carol.

We have planted a few butterfly bushes in the yard. We always have some flying around. If we want to save this species, everyone needs to plant some.

Jeffrey- you're so right!!!  And just a few bushes would help! Thank you for caring for them.

Hello Kathy - I thought the difference between a moth and butterfly might be more noticeable or obvious but once again, there is a difference between what I think and what is true.   And I am sure that exists for each of us.

Hi Michael- I had to look it up because I had no real idea.

Nature is the cleverest creator, and never ceases to amaze us.  I look forward to seeing what is new every day as I walk around inspecting our plants...and also out and about.  I am always entertained.  A

I am so happy Larry did not step on the little fellow and took his picture instead.  I agree with Grant, the picture is so perfect that it does not even look real.  It is beautiful!

Ray- I'm glad he didn't, either. It's pretty big but when you aren't looking for it, you could step on it.

Kathy it does look like eyes on their wings.  I wonder if it is part of their defense mechanism.

That's some butterfly.  After reading the difference between moths and butterflies, I think I have had several mistaken identities on my front porch over the years.

Wow such an interesting photo Kathy!  I would have no idea other than I thought moths were pretty much all one color and butterflies are colorful.  It amazes me the gifts we find in nature every day if we just slow down and notice.

During a family vacation in Palm Desert several years ago, I saw a large moth that had similar colors but looked more like a curled up leaf.  I marveled at how nature had presented such a creature.  It looke like this one pictured.
