sresThere's great news for all of you agents that ENJOY learning and show PRIDE in achieving your designations.

REBAC has purchased the SRES® designation.  The SRES designation is now part of the SRES Council and NAR family of designations.  Soon to follow will be a new ad campaign focused on consumers, new prospecting tools for designees and a new look to the SRES® logo.

If there is an SRES® course in your area, sign up!  Effective immediately, the SRES® course will be recognized as elective credit for the Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR®) designation.  Isn't that great news?!abr

The next time you're considering a course to get those continuing education credits consider the SRES® and ABR® designations.  Show your involvement in the real estate community and pride in your profession by becoming a specialist with a designation!

Chris still trying to get use to the new picture, it is lovely but I was so use to the old one.  I too value education, I took the SRES course a few years ago and I really value the information provided.  Working with seniors is something I like to do even if not real estate related.  I am on the Senior's Committee in town, I am part of the garden club so I am always interacting with them.  Because of the course I now know how to segment the group by age, this allows me to serve them better.

Uh, I'm not used to the new photo yet, either.  I was searching for an old post yesterday and it doesn't help that I can't recognize myself.

I'll be totally honest - I have not gotten any additional designations because I've always had a problem with abbreviations - CRS - SRES - ABR ...but if I ever change my mind, I will make sure to look these up.

Thanks, Chris. Got my SRES last fall. I think the change in the designation makes lots of sense.

Maggie - I personally would recommed the CRS. It is great training (the best I have had) and provides a broader focus (technology, referrals, listings, buyers, building your business investing). If you do a lot with buyers, having the ABR is good too, IMO. GOod luck.

Thanks for another good one Chris.  I have my CRS and think these designations are all a wonderful tool and we need to be reminded of the benefit of advertising their value.

Thanks for the update, Chris.  Please consider adding  Alphabet Soup: the ABCs of Designations to your reading list on the topic of designations.  Please also leave a comment there with a link pointing to this one.  I wrote that before the acquisition of the SRES designation, so it will be good for readers there to be drawn here, too.

Maggie, I would suggest that you go for something like ABR before CRS. CRS requires a lot of class room time as well as a considerable amount of production. If you get your ABR or GRI, they can count toward CRS credits. Also, CRS classes are not as readily available, so it will take you some time to complete. Just my two cents.

Hi Chris,  I have had my SRES since I started in RE.  As a Retired Geriatric Nurse I thought it did not make any sense NOT to earn the designation and I am really excited about the new notoriety we will have as part of REBAC and being recognized by NAR.  I am looking forward to some interesting ad materials coming our way - facelifts can be a good thing!

Geez Nancy, that's a two-fer! I've always heard nurses do well in real estate due to their ability to interact with people in many different scenarios. You're have all sorts of things going for you!

Chris,, I am in the middle of SRES right now. Took day one this past Saturday and in two weeks will take day two and the exam. As a former RN, I find that nurses have a bit of an advantage with many .."different scenarios"

Margaret, nurses and teachers are just good REALTORS, period.

I took my course in Sun City AZ.  I had a great instructor and I really enjoyed the class.  I think I learned a level of compassion and patience that I've been able to implement with my seniors and their families.  After I get permission to discuss their real estate needs with family I keep everyone in the loop. I'm currently working with getting a listing ready for a lovely senior that will be moving north again to be with family.

She is overwhelmed by the whole process and we are taking our time with everything.  Moving forward slowly, etc.  I am on hand to meet cleaning crews, etc. so she isn't home alone with "strangers" and has a party involved looking out for her best interest.

Having an agent who is willing to go the extra mile to serve the needs of a Senior client is priceless.  I suspect that by serving as an advocate for your client's best interests, you also stand a solid chance of gaining business with their familiy members.
