The Stamford Nature Center in Stamford Connecticut is a great destination for families. It is an easy drive without the crowd of going to the Zoo in the Bronx in New York City. This really is a hidden gem.
Our daughter lives 20 minutes from us in Stamford. She was looking for places to educate and entertain grandson Maxwell.
The official name is The Stamford Museum and Nature Center. There are many activities available.
- Upcoming Spring of the Farm - During the Sundays in May they will be offering fun and games of a mini-festival into a single admission price. This include enhanced programming, and fun seasonal offerings to delight the whole family until 2 pm.
-
April Features Take a Hike Week - There are small group hikes, family challenges, and outdoor self-guided activities. All programs are free for members and free with admission for non-members.
- Farmer for the Evening - Visitors can join the center's farmers and lend a helping hand on Heckscher Farm. You can help the farmers feed, groom, and walk our animals including goats, sheep, cows, llamas and alpacas, donkeys, and more. Now that really sounds like fun for city slickers.
- Programs for children with disabilities - I am really impressed with this! This new program provides a chance for hands-on work with the Heckscher Farm animals for students with disabilities. The small group allows for a great experience at each participant’s pace and comfort-level. A grant has covered all costs so that there is no charge to these families.
This is a non profit organization supported by donations and entry fees. You can join for $85 and have a complimentary family admission for one year.
Grandson Maxwell has already enjoyed visits here.
We will be making many more visits with Maxwell. This is the third entry to April's Show off your area contest
