Where To Find Mural Artwork In Charlotte
When people think of the Queen City, they don't normally think in terms of a rich legacy of mural artwork. In fact mural artwork is on the rise and Charlotte offers more than 70 murals to enjoy throughout the metro area.
Here's a list of five of the best known Charlotte neighborhoods for mural artwork, but keep in mind that murals are tucked into other neighborhoods all over the Queen City... in Plaza Midwood, Tuckaseegee, Eastway, Sugar Creek Greenway, Midtown.
South End Neighborhood: features numerous murals throughout the neighborhood. In fact, public art is considered one of the signature features of the Southend neighborhood, which bills itself as "the only neighborhood that doubles as a canvas." Street murals are a big part of the South End art experience. One of the neighborhood's newest murals is the Heart Wall. Then there's the Magic Carpet mural across from Atherton Mill in Southend, the South End Community mural, the Wilmore Goldmine mural. NODA Neighborhood: starting at the corner of North Davidson and 35th Street where you'll find the the 46 by 10 foot Bloom mural, you can do a walking tour of murals and street art sprinkled throughout the NODA streets. Uptown Charlotte: you can do a walking tour of 19 murals on the Murals Only Artwalk starting at 5th and Tryon Streets in Uptown Charlotte. More information about the murals you will see on the Murals Only Artwalk.
West End: Charlotte's historic West End is now home to "The Great Escape," a series of eight painted panels about the Underground Railroad by Charlotte artist Abel Jackson. It is currently located at 1635 West Trade Street around the Five Points Plaza in Historic West End.
Camp North End: a mix between industrial art collective, shopping center, and an outdoor food hall. Camp North End is a massive adaptive reuse project on a 76-acre industrial site north of Uptown. It's now home to over 30 amazing murals.
