Carlsbad Art in the Village Returns in 2021
Great news for art lovers - the popular Annual Art in the Village Fair is back for 2021, the 23rd year.
Because of the pandemic Art in the Village was rescheduled from June to August in 2020, then canceled, unfortunately. But Art in the Village has returned and will take place on Sunday June 27th.
If you want a preview, take a look at the Virtual Art in the Village online gallery that was set up last year after the cancelation of the live art fair. Many of the featured artists will be attending the 2021 Art in the Village event.
Art in the Village is sponsored by the Carlsbad Village Association, and there will be many returning artists as well as some new one – applications are still being taken until May 7 if you are interested in participating.
Art in the Village takes place along State Street and Grand Avenue in downtown Carlsbad Village. The art fair runs from 9 am until 5 pm and is FREE.
Carlsbad is well known for its 1-day art fairs, although last year was an exception when they were all canceled. Whether or not you are an art lover, strolling the Carlsbad Village streets to appreciate live art and music on a summer Sunday is a fun thing to do, even if you just are browsing!!
There will be works of art from over 100 local and regional artists, as well as interactive demonstrations, performance art and live music. All the artwork is handcrafted and unique and you can talk with the artists, too, about their work and inspiration.
I attended the last one in 2019 (that's me in the new Art Beach Chair that was unveiled at Art in the Village), and I expect this year will be similar with an impressive diversity of works of art – hand-painted clothing, fine art, classical and contemporary sculpture, pottery and ceramics, jewelry, paintings (watercolors, oils, acrylics, and mixed media), wood working, metal, glass, hand-made furniture, and more.
Of course be sure to bring cash or credit cards so you can have some fun buying!
We can expect great weather for enjoying the art fair, being outdoors and perhaps being at the beach.
Carlsbad Village art fairs are always crowded, so I would anticipate some parking challenges - our parking is free - and consider your travel time accordingly.
If you prefer public transportation or are coming from a distance, the Coaster station (commuter rail) is nearby in the heart of the Village off State Street.
If you actually tire of exploring Art in the Village, there are plentiful retailers in the downtown area to visit, and dining options galore. And why not take some time to enjoy our beautiful Carlsbad beaches just 2 blocks away?
