Thelma Adele Patten Law was born in Huntsville, Texas back in 1900 to Mason and Pauline. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1917 as valedictorian. In 1923, she graduated from Howard University with a medical degree. The following year she earned her medical license.
She set up her first practice in Houston at the Odd Fellows Temple in 1924. In 1940, she became the president of the Lone Star Medical Association. She died in 1968, she was 67.
What you may not know about Thelma is that she was the first African American woman admitted to the Harris County Medical Society.
