WHAT ARE YOU PITCHING?

In the world of commerce, investment, goods and services, there are established rules and procedures either for the concept, idea or operation and then there are imposed rules from agencies, departments and participants and when all those mandatory ducks line-up a risk gets its legs and a turn to prove itself

THE TRUE TEST

The wheel has been created now to submit our working model and if we did our homework it will follow its projections like a baby learning to walk. From there, we remain diligent, tweaking and modifying the concept until it takes hold. Then, we become support, management and coach

THE RISK UPFRONT

The start-up of anything is risk heavy and full of unknowns one of which is the public. Who knows how they will respond? We only have our best projections, competition and mathematics to tell us that we too can do what another can do. Another wild card is the economy. Still another?

THE TEST OF TIME

The first few months of any roll-out, investment and risk is where we are the most vulnerable. The operation or endeavor is totally dependent on the people behind the concept, money and response from the public. Whatever we do has only so much time to find its legs and walk on its own

EXCUSES ARE YOUR OWN

Often and more than we care to admit, the principals or key players are not privy to guesswork, excuses or any type of denial. As an example: In the world of venture capital, people with money and resources have pressing questions that require succint answers before they invest monies

DOUBT...HESITATION AND CONFUSION

Investor groups attack your blind sides, weaknesses and challenge your very concepts looking not to win an argument but instead to gauge your capability and probe your ideas. These investors are brutal and for good cause. Second chances, do-overs and good intentions count for naught

STORY-TELLING

Every entrepreneur has a story to tell but only if leads to a sensible outcome and passes scrutiny muster. The wright brothers when experimenting with flight told tales of awe but their reality in the end was: but can it fly? So it is today with all proposals. Positivity only goes so far. Enrolling people in your story is a weakness for all who try this approach. Reality is what we are seeking

PEOPLE BUY FROM PEOPLE FIRST

Whatever we are doing or proposing the one pitching the move comes under judgement, testing, challenge and if they have character, conviction, honesty and a clear path of procedure the scrutinizers consider that test successful. Why? Proof of capability is made known.

DEALING WITH THE PUBLIC

Assuming you can launch an idea or successful move, at some point dealing with others is presented. Learning how to navigate through the different personalities is more challenging than the proposal or concept. Teams come in handy at this point while going it alone remains high risk

TEAMWORK

The foundation of any successful team is non-negotiable and the stages mandatory. 1. Forming where the group comes together. 2. Storming where the group works out excuses, wild egos, arguments and general dislikes. 3. Norming is where we can now move & 4. Performing the task

SELLING GOODS...SERVICES AND RESULTS

I met a young lady selling fresh juices professionaly presented and reasonably priced. The product was inviting and her knowledge of it credible. The final test of what is being presnted remained in the hands of the consumer (me). Delicious & the woman added: I deliver to your home. I tried that too and was not dissapointed. Word of mouth kicked in and she is in a state of production success

THE BOTTOM LINE OF WHATEVER IT IS

Does the person or team actually know what they are talking about? Will they address what they don't know in a convincing manner (think honesty). Results or lack of them do not lie and in the end, success (or failure) is defined by all who are involved.

Hello Richie - story-telling is always a part of the dialogue.  Sometimes it is subtle, perhaps a player behind the scenes or it can be much more vocal.  And the choice becomes to engage or dismiss.

Richie,

We do not pitch, we attract the right people for our services.  It is a different marketing style, but it works for us.  Have a great weekend.  A
