If you recently became a Member of ActiveRain congratulations! You took the first step. Welcome! May each day give you a new perspective of new beginnings with hope, strength, and courage. The imagine in the photograph is what my office looked like in the Fall of 2010 when I started on AR. Like me, it has gone through many transformations. I had a desk dedicated to my computer and a writing desk to write stories and what was important to me. Perhaps you're struggling about where to begin your Photo Storytelling Journal? If so, here is a mini tutorial on how to begin:
Go to My Home
Look for the Gold Triangle on the top right where it says Write Post
Enter a Title, i.e., I chose "ActiveRain May Contest - Life is a Story.
(you can choose any Title you want but if it's a title already chosen, it will tell you to rename it to something else).
On the left side below where you see "Featured image," choose a file. That would be wherever you stored your picture. Once you open the box, find picture, choose the photo and click Open. The photo then drops automatically on your AR Blog Post already sized and ready to go. For BEST instructions read the post by Craig Daniels. For BEST instructions on How to Insert Photos Into Your Blog click on the Title to the left and it will take you to Craig's Blog Post.
Scroll down to where you see File, Edit, View, Insert Format Tools, etc.
Begin under the heading where you see ABC - start there to create your content for your Photo Journaling Entry.
If you want to add additional photos, look to the right under the words "Droid Serif serif and look for the icon that looks like 2 mountain peaks and a black circle - that's where you add more photos. However, this contest only requires you to add one original photo that you took.
Write at least 250 words (word count will be on the bottom right).
Next choose either Public or Member's Only (it's a drop down box).
Next choose AR Topics. There are 2 categories Professional and Consumers (only choose one topic, it really doesn't matter.
Next see the words "Hyper Local?" Choose your State.
Next choose Groups - for this purpose you only need to choose the top one on the right called "ActiveRain Challenge."
Next you have more options to allow by clicking the box to re-blog for others to re-blog what you wrote or leave it unchecked.
Next, add tags if you want.
This is all done on your blog post page. When you're done, go to the words My Home (where you started) and do one of two things. Choose Traffic on the left side in Blue. You will see the title you created for your post. Copy and paste that title in a comment to the bottom of the original post for the May Contest: (click Title) to take you to the original: ActiveRain May Contest - Life is a Story Need more ideas? Try Tips for Successful Storytelling Journalism.
To contact any of the Judges through ActiveRain or to include them in Comments click on your keyboard the "at symbol." on my keyboard it's located on top my #2. Here on AR, click on the at symbol and type in a name, such as Jeff and a drop down box will pop up and you choose the person's name you want to contact.
If you have any questions, just ask, or go to the Q& A section and members will be more than willing to help assist you. Remember, when it comes to technology, we are fortunate to have Craig Daniels who is always willing to help everyone on ActiveRain. Don't give up! Here in AR World someone is always up 24/7. Good luck! Oh, and by the way, just as my Office transformed over the years, I did too and I know you will as well. One more thing, I was inspired to write this post because of Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 - you never know, she may give you a call someday to check in with you to find out how you're doing!
Take care and Write On....
