Up! Up! Up And Away!!!

Real Estate Agent with DFW FINE PROPERTIES 0506509

Today is the Festival of Flight at Prestwick Elementary School located in the city of The Colony in Denton, Texas. No pets or alcohol are allowed for this event but fun is for free!

I remember the fun times when I ordered kites for my Girl Scout Troop long ago. My daughter and the girls were free to laugh, run, watch kites fly, and compete with each other. Oh, I remember how much fun they had laughing and rolling around on the ground when strings got tangled up together. We didn't have "balloon animals, ballistic swing rides, wizzer rides, a Bird Exhibit, craft kits, juggling, turbo tubs, or food trucks," but we sure had a lot of fun!

My Scout is all grown up. Now she Kite Surfs on Land & Sea. I watched her Kite flying in Switzerland and Kite Surfing in Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea in 2016. It takes a lot of skill to fly different types of kites.

We went kite flying. Here she is enjoying herself while I took pictures.

Through the mountain trails we hiked where she carried her kite and I carried my camera and her gear while she flew kites.

Next we flew to Sardinia where she showed me how she Kite Surfs after getting certified.

The moral of the story is, when you teach your child how to fly a kite you never know how far they'll advance when they grow up and leave you.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP hi Patricia... that sounds like a lot of fun. Personally, I grew up with no kite flying fun... not something that was easy to do in the middle of a big city. (But I did rollerskate on the sidewalks!)

Nina Hollander, Broker - I also spent a lot of my childhood rollerskating up and down the sidewalks in the City of Chicago. It was fun. I'm guessing you had a skate key too. I would skate all day and never get tired if my parents let me.

I have not flown a kite yet...Every so often I see them at the beach.  I like the sea kite your daughter is holding.  Happy Saturday.  A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - That kite she's holding was not cheap! Plus the training she endured to become a Certified Instructor was expensive and time consuming too. But she loves it. In San Diego she surfed the waves with a surf board. She is not afraid to try new things. For her, succeeding is fun.

That Festival of Flight sounds like a wonderful community event, Patricia!  When I was a kid I had a real fascination with kites.  Today, and for the next couple days, we are having unusually high breezes here in Sacramento.  Almost too much wind to fly kites comfortably.

Myrl Jeffcoat - I learned early on, it's not as easy to fly a kite as it looks but if you get it up there, it's a feeling of accomplishment! Nice childhood memories of kite flying, don't you think? Your weather sounds unpredictable. It was beautiful here on Saturday. Today is very cloudy with severe weather storms predicted for this afternoon. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to you! I hope the weather is great where you are and that you can connect with all your children.

Hello Patricia - your post is a nice reminder of the spirit of kite-flying.  And spirit may be the appropriate word to use to describe the feeling the practice prompts.

Michael Jacobs - Spirit! I like that word and I like how you think. May you reclaim that spirit of childhood that made you happiest when you were young and may it last forever.

What is Sardinia like?  I watched a program about it once and it convinced me to try to adhere to a similar diet that they do, haha.

That Ballistic Swing Ride intrigues me and scares me just a bit, king of like kite surfing.  I bet it was exhilarating!

Raymond Henson, eXp Realty - I like to try new things but I am not a dare devil! I remember when I was in Leadership with the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce and we had to do the Zip Lines. Honestly, after holding up the line, if that one person behind me on the platform didn't push me off, I wouldn't have moved on my own. Once I was zipping down the line and got over my fear, it was exhilarating. I would imagine the feelings are similar to the Ballistic Swing Ride. As for me, I prefer now to take pictures of other dare devils!

Kite flying is so much fun, but your daughter has certainly taken a more exciting way to "fly" a kite. So much fun!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 - I get so much fun watching her and learning about all the things she does. From the time she was thinking on her own as a toddler, she challenged me and took chances that made me cry, pray, and my hair turn white. Watching her kite surf in the sea was a nail biting experience for me. She was out so far, all I could see to identify her was that Kite! When she got back to the beaches and I could see her clearly she wore the biggest, most beautiful smile any mother would like to see on their daughter's face. She lives, loves, takes risks, challenges herself, and has fun.

Selling Homes Changing Lives

Brian England - Sardinia is an Island in the Mediterranean Sea. It has the bluest, most turquoise, and transparent Caribbean Sea color I have ever seen in my lifetime. When I started College long after High School graduation, getting married, having children; then becoming widowed I took a Geology class as an elective. If it was possible, I would have honed in and mastered the study of Geology and Archaeology. However Geology is my favorite and knowing what I know now, as a result of my experience, I would have studied Geology in Sardinia. There is so much cultural diversity in the people, landscape, mountains, and sea. When visiting the oldest ruins (1900-730 BC), I was surprised to learn how small the people were. How they built with stone and by hand was surreal. Hiking took my breath away because of the unusual plants, trees, and the smell of the sea. The weather was similar to TX and AZ but had a different feel in the air. As for the beaches, the beautiful beaches caused my daughter, son-in-law, and myself to pause... stand, sit, and walk in silence by ourselves to appreciate all the beauty around us. As we walked through various towns there was artwork on the ancient buildings where people lived inside. We had the best meals in places where culinary art is taken seriously and meals aren't rushed. I hope someday I can go back. Thank you for asking.

From what I saw on the program I could tell that Sardinia is a very special place and I am so glad that you got to experience it in real life!!!

Brian England - A trip to Sardinia was a birthday gift from my daughter and son-in-law. When we got on the plane I had no idea where we were going until we landed. It was such a surprise. I couldn't stop crying with tears of happiness. She always makes whatever time we have together memorable and beautiful. May you have continuous good memories with your mom and dad. I think your family is extra special.
