Today is the Festival of Flight at Prestwick Elementary School located in the city of The Colony in Denton, Texas. No pets or alcohol are allowed for this event but fun is for free!
I remember the fun times when I ordered kites for my Girl Scout Troop long ago. My daughter and the girls were free to laugh, run, watch kites fly, and compete with each other. Oh, I remember how much fun they had laughing and rolling around on the ground when strings got tangled up together. We didn't have "balloon animals, ballistic swing rides, wizzer rides, a Bird Exhibit, craft kits, juggling, turbo tubs, or food trucks," but we sure had a lot of fun!
My Scout is all grown up. Now she Kite Surfs on Land & Sea. I watched her Kite flying in Switzerland and Kite Surfing in Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea in 2016. It takes a lot of skill to fly different types of kites.
We went kite flying. Here she is enjoying herself while I took pictures.
Through the mountain trails we hiked where she carried her kite and I carried my camera and her gear while she flew kites.
Next we flew to Sardinia where she showed me how she Kite Surfs after getting certified.
The moral of the story is, when you teach your child how to fly a kite you never know how far they'll advance when they grow up and leave you.
