Rosemary Lehmberg was born in Tyler, Texas back in 1949.  She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Natural Sciences.   She continued her education where she graduated with a J.D. from Saint Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio.  After graduation, she ran a private practice until 1976.

That same year she started working for the DA’s office in Travis County.  Working as a trial attorney in the 167th District Court being promoted multiple times, she headed the specialized legal division.  In 1988, she became the Director of the Family Justice Division.  She was the First Assistant District Attorney from 1997 to 2009.

In 2013she was arrested for DWI with a blood alcohol level of .239, three times the legal limit.  The result of the arrest caused her to leave the office.

What you may not know about Rosemary is that in 2009, she became the first female District Attorney in Travis County, Texas.

Hello James - I admit I was looking for the rest of the story to unveil further - what happened next?  I am thinking there's more to follow.  There always is, right?

Good morning, James... shame that Dorothy's stellar career had to be interrupted the way it was.

These kinds of stories sadden me and what I get from it is that she was so stressed and it led to her drinking, which led to her downfall.  We certainly need less stress in our lives to stay healthy and happy.

Good morning James. A talented individual who made a huge mistake, but she is likely doing well in private practice. Enjoy you day.

Nice story on this one. Some of these places in Texas can be a littler harder for women to break into.

James,

Like Michael Jacobs I was waiting for the punch line.  Given her job, no wonder she drank her way out of office---that is my punch line and I am sticking to it.  Cheers, A

Rosemary Lehmberg’s love of the law led her to great heights. It is too bad that she eventually ran afoul of the law in a way that cost her career.
