Jonathan Leibowitz was born in New York City, New York back in 1962 to Donald and Marian. When he was eleven his parents divorced which cause Jonathan to have an estranged relationship with his father. He had his name changed in 2001, more on that in a moment. He attended Lawrence High School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
He continued his education graduating in 1984 from The College of William & Mary in Virginia. After graduation he had several jobs: a contingency planner for the New jersey Department of human services, he also worked for the City University of New York, a puppeteer for children with disabilities, a soccer coach, a busboy and a shelf stocker at Woolworth’s just to name a few.
He was known as a funny man in school so in 1986 he returned to New York City where he made his stand-up debut at The Bitter End. Needless to say, the rest is history. He has worked for several entities including ABC, CBS and HBO. He is also an author writing two books. He has won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.
Now back to changing his name while you may not recognize Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, surely, you’ve heard of him as Jon Stewart.
