It's Not For Everyone. . .

It’s Not For Everyone. . .

In her recently featured post, The Power Of Blogging…  Hannah Williams wrote of the success she has experienced with blogging in her business.

Back in the days when there were challenges to call members we hadn't previously spoken to connect, I spoke with Hannah.  We discussed many things including the benefits of blogging.  Her post brought back more memories of that call.  Of market reports and shared experiences.

My comment, to her, in part:

blogging has obviously worked for you and we know it has succeeded for countless others but it may not work for everyone.  And that’s okay because people are  different.  Some try blogging, expect an immediate response and become disillusioned.  Others try other possible brighter or shinier objects.  It’s about finding what works best for you.   In all aspects of life.

There have been many times when a comment has become a post.  That’s just the way it goes.  As a member of ActiveRain and as a member of Planet Earth when thoughts become conversations.  Sometimes even connections.  Yeah, that’s my story.  And I’m sticking to it.

Hey Michael,  (wink-wink)
I loved blogging when I was working. Well, I still do but I don't do it to get business now. I think it worked for me because I was an early adopter and the ONLY one in our area blogging consistently. There was no way anyone could catch up with me if they wanted to.  That said, I still don't see many local agents blogging but there are companies paying for top positions on Google (and probably other search engines).  It's hard to rank these days competing with that.  Perhaps it would still work for me if I tried. I guess I'll never know.

Endre Barath, Jr. - it's easy to miss posts with glitches, mishaps and assorted other issues constantly at "play".  On ActiveRain and in real life.  I appreciate the comment.  Thank you.

Hey Hey Carol Williams - my blogging "strategy" has definitely changed over time and it can vary somewhat by mood or some other brain-induced means.  It's all good.  Or at least that's my story.  🙃

Michael Jacobs this is so true, unfortunately so many agents want a quick fix. Blogging is very similar to farming a neighborhood, you are actually virtually farming, but that farm can reach potentially thousands of possible clients. It takes time to reap the benefits of blogging just like it takes time for people in a neighborhood to get to Know Like and Trust you as an agent -  what I like about blogging over farming is I get to pick the type of clients I want to work with, it is attraction marketing at its finest -  and very little out of pocket expense.

The other side of this is that most brokerages only teach one way to get business when there are literally scores of different approaches, you have to find what works for you, not for them!

John Marshall - FORE! - thank you for the insightful comment.  And it's applicable to many(and likely any) marketing effort.  Time and the ability to stick to it with a consistent(and always improving) strategy can help one become better.  And more knowledgeable.  Your comment is making the cogs in my brain churn.  I appreciate that.

Congratulations on the feature, Michael!

I have had many of my comments evolve into posts and have had comments left on my posts inspire a new post. LOVE when that happens!

Sharon Tara - is it the "magic" of the Rain or just something in the "water"?  April showers bring May flowers.  Comments left and received become posts --- I wonder about the connection.  If any.  Hmm, yeah I wonder. . .

I found that blogging helped my business especially in a farm area.  I'm getting back at it!

Hi Michael:

Your main point is well taken, about blogging, and about all the other types of marketing one can do, and about life in general. There is no one right answer or method that suits everyone.

Hi Michael Jacobs - You are so right.  Blogging may not work for everyone. Then there is a difference in style as well.  But what I have come to learn, it is similar to that line in the movie "Field of Dreams", that if you post it, they will come...eventually.  I have received comments from clients that searched the internet and saw a post of mine from years ago.  As they say, once it is out there, it never goes away...!

Agreed, many times I have had ideas triggered by other posts that morphed into a blog of my own as well.  We have many tools to use, but don't have to use them all.

Debra Leisek - thank you and it's nice to "see" you.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - and many times they don't recall where they "found" you but because you are "out there" you might eventually be found.

Jim Paulson - that toolbox often overflows with value.

Thomas J. Nelson, REALTOR ® e-Pro CRS RCS-D Vets - when blogging(or any activity) leads to connections - then we're talking.

I agree with Jeff Dowler, additionally, many other factors could be in play, like your target market and other pertinent details.
