Community and Real Estate Information

Wood County, West Virginia's southernmost town, is Rockport. The shortest route to the unincorporated community is Interstate 77, about a 22-mile drive south of Parkersburg. The area is largely undeveloped, with huge forested hillsides stretching for miles in every direction. Several country roads pass through these hills, heading to the community's many private homesteads. Rockport's properties are widely dispersed, which is an essential factor for families considering relocating.

Rockport real estate consists of a combination of multi-acre assets and custom-built homes scattered around the community's large land area. Since most homes are spread out very far from one another, you can enjoy a great deal of privacy that you won't find in the city. Houses in the area come in many different styles, but cottage-style, cabin-style, and ranch-style structures are very popular. Despite its size, the area's supply is small since most homes are owner-occupied and seldom come up for sale. Standard prices are in the mid-to low $100,000 range, representing excellent value when considering the considerably larger lots that these homes come with.

Business Opportunities

If you love being outside, the extensive nature preserves of southern Wood County provide plenty of hiking opportunities. The area's properties are mostly large multi-acre lots, contrasting sharply with the average suburban home available in the region.

Important Considerations

The biggest disadvantage of Rockport is its distance from the nearest city center, Parkersburg. Mineral Wells Elementary School is the closest school if you're bringing your kids, but it's still a bit of a drive. While the Rockport Community Building has some facilities, most of the area's big-city attractions are a bit of a drive away for families.
