As we were merrily walking on the beach, and older lady with a marine wildlife vest pulled us aside and asked that we move towards higher ground...
At the shore was a sea lioness making her way up to the beach to sun bathe on the rocks...You can see her progress which took 5 minutes shortened to two minutes in this video.
We moved and watched a pregnant mama sea lion (unlike the seals), they have flippers which help them navigate. The marine wildlife person explained that sea lions spend half their lives on shore.
She also explained that this lioness will be delivering any day now! She will immediately teach her pups to swim and fish. By the time we returned, she was still sleeping on the rocks,
We learned that there are watchers who report to the volunteers who live nearby, to come and make sure our wild creatures are protected. In the video, you will see dogs held back until she gets to safety and arrives to her favorite rock.
This is a moment we will cherish all our lives. We are so appreciative that the marine wildlife people are in tune with what is happening on our coast. This is one of the many reasons we love living here!
Wishing everyone a delightful Wednesday!
