The beautiful private neighborhood of Lake Bonavista is located in the southeastern part of Calgary, Alberta. Anderson Road from the north, Macleod Trail from the west, Canyon Meadows Drive from the south, and Bow Bottom Trail from the east form distinct boundaries. The neighborhood is one of the first built subdivisions in Calgary around an artificial lake offering scenic views. In 1968, the 52-acre Lake Bonavista was developed, including a 65-foot landscaped hillside with a phenomenal waterfall that cascades on the community lake.

 

Lake Bonavista has its own “estates” section, bordered by Lake Bonavista Drive to the north, Bonaventure Drive to the west, Canyon Meadows Drive to the south, and Acadia Drive to the east. Homes and lands in this area are much larger compared to the rest of Lake Bonavista. The majority of the houses you will find inside the estate are two-story houses, with fewer bungalows and split floor plans. At the same time, the remaining areas of Lake Bonavista offer different floor layouts, including two stories, bungalows, bi-levels, and split-level homes.

 

Lake Bonaventure is a second, private lake inside the estate's section of Lake Bonavista. It is only accessible for the 143 homes surrounding the lake. It is also bordered by Lake Placid drive. Owners in this area pay a separate, annual homeowners association (HOA) fee (most recently $1400) on top of the $325 HOA fee paid annually for access to Lake Bonavista. On the other hand, Bonavista Downs is east of Lake Bonavista, offering affordable prices for modestly sized homes. Floor space range between 1000 to 1500 square feet. Bonavista Downs is a quiet neighborhood, perfect for buyers who are moving into the area.

 

The price range for real estate available in this neighborhood sits around $450,000 up to $4,000,000 with 1,100 square feet to 3500 square feet in floor space. The higher the price, the newer build. Most homes are built with modern architectural designs, featuring five bedrooms and three to five baths. Each home is designed with mature landscaping, beautiful towering trees, and marvelous snowscapes during the winter. 

 

While most properties are generally single-family homes, Lake Bonavista offers more options for real estate buyers, including condos. There are four apartment condo buildings in Lake Bonavista. Lake Bonavista Estates I, Lake Bonavista Estates II, Gateway Southcentre & Chateaux Lake Bonavista. Square footages range from 550 square feet and typically as high as 1600 square feet and range from $150,000 to $600,000 in price.

Thanks to its location, residents in Lake Bonavista can enjoy water activities that everyone will surely love. These include fishing, swimming, boating, tennis, hiking, skating, and even tobogganing. On top of that, the neighborhood is also conveniently located near the Lake Bonavista Shopping Promenade and Avenida Shopping Center, and Fish Creek Park, places they can visit anytime. The Lake Bonavista Community Association has a community center that features two ice rinks, a fitness center, and multipurpose rooms for community or family events. Residents of Lake Bonaventure enjoy living along the second, 35-acre private lake. They enjoy exclusive access to the water feature and its amenities.

Important Considerations

Homes in Bonavista Downs do not offer lake access to Lake Bonavista. Due to the limited inventory of the type of home you are looking for, transitioning into the place might take longer than expected.
