Pocket Pondering. . .

And Pondering Pockets. . .

I have become fairly familiar with pockets.  Definitely not an expert but familiar.  The utility of them is well-known but their significance beyond the inside world where one might usually find them may not be so obvious.

Have you ever heard of deep pockets?  It’s a common enough term to be considered a target one might want to avoid.    While it often means deep pockets of money and dreams of financial windfall, I wonder about deep pockets of knowledge.

Such knowledge is beneficial in real estate where other

uses of the word pocket can step forth.  Pocket

listings is certainly a familiar term though perhaps spoken in secret, almost-hushed tones.  Knowing what,

where and who has the listings(or any relevant information) can be quite powerful.  So I guess we can say these pockets not only run deep but can have a profound impact.  For practitioners as well as those interested in making a move.

Then there are pocket parks and pockets of neighborhoods where increased value as well as desirability can be found.  These pockets may not be as obvious as others.  So here’s another example where local knowledge remains critical.  Talk about “inside” knowledge - yes, dig deep into those pockets.

And speaking of digging deep yet veering off the real estate road just a bit, is it just some hunger pains or is that an image of a tasty hot pocket?  Wow, it’s been some time since I have thought, let alone have eaten, one of these.  Yes, digging deeper pertains to pockets of memory too. It can be amazing(well, sorta) where pondering might lead.

And, as Arnold Schwarzenegger once said “Just remember, you can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets”.  It may help if you say it with a distinctive Austrian accent.  Go ahead, try it.  And that can lead to an even deeper discussion. . .

Michael, luckily, no one has looked at me and said I have deep pockets!   Speaking of Hot Pockets, it has been since my daughter was a kid that I had those!

Having a deep pocket of knowledge is certainly a great thing in this business.  Another bunch of pockets you didn't mention are those on a billiard table.  Have enough expertise and you can call the shot down to the exact pocket.  That's always a good feeling.

Hi Michael Jacobs - This is one of your best "pondering posts" ever.  I loved it.  I have to admit my first reaction was that my husband has all of these pockets but inevitably something of his always ends up in my purse which already weighs 20 lbs. LOL!

Now you have my mind pondering on pockets.

8 ball in the side pocket.

Air pocket.

Is That a Pistol in Your Pocket, or Are You Just Glad to See Me? Mae West (and all the variations - banana, pipe, rod, sword).

I shall stop before I get myself in a pocket of trouble.

Chris Ann Cleland - it's the unofficial opening of "pool season" right?  How did I ever miss the billards reference?  🙃

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - well, your organizational ability obviously is well-known to your husband.

Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist - ah, yes that famous Mae West quote on pockets was legendary as well as the woman who said it.

Michael Jacobs - Ah... and never burn a hole in your pocket either! Before I graduated at Southeastern in 2006 as a Paralegal, the Attorney gave me sage advice. "Take that magnetic real estate sign off your car or you and your Broker will be the target for Deep Pockets. I took it off and noticed the paint on my car had faded and never returned. A couple of days later, my Broker called me into the Office and told me some driver on the road thought I was driving too fast and reported me. When she asked for more information, all he had was a picture of my car with the magnetic sign.

First, I'd like to say a BIG congratulations to James Dray! I encoure my clients to do the same and am so proud when they actually follow my advice.

As for digging deeper - another hitting-close-to-home moment, Michael! I have found missing words from last week today. Have you ever had that happen? I phoned a friend in AZ today to tell her I finally remembered a word I could not think of last week - and, of course, what that word was. When I start forgetting who I was with when I couldn't think of the word, then I'm in trouble! I may have to get a longer pole digger, when or if that happens!!

Loved Schwarzenegger's quote - and agree with it completely!

Just remember, you can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets

Debe Maxwell, CRS - the "thing" with reading comments is that, for me, it's another learning lesson - new insights, once familiar revisits and a certain cadence(rhythm) develops.  I am not sure this is where you were going with your comment but it was my reaction as I read your words.
