Should people be using,  the Crawl Space, for Pets?

Is this a good or bad idea?

Do you want to use the Crawl Space for Pets?

Although, this is a creative idea, I would not let or allow pets in the Crawl Space. Either intentionally or unintentionally.  Here are some reasons, why.

1/ Your Crawl Space affects the indoor living environment.

Your Crawl Space door, should be shut at all times and you should have a Crawl Space door on your Crawl Space and the door should be closed and secure at all times.

If you have no door on the Crawl Space, cats, dogs may enter out of the rain or in bad weather conditions or to keep cooler or warmer.  If a dog or cat goes to the bathroom in the Crawl Space, the odor could affect the indoor living environment, through cracks and crevices and around vent work and plumbing gaps from the Crawl Space to the inside of the home.

2/ Hair and Dander from the animal.  Do people really want more Nasty added to there Crawl Space with added hair and dander?

3/ Another entry point for Moisture and Water Damage.

When it rains or snows, think of added Moisture being added to your Crawl Space, with no door or the Crawl Space door, left open.

4/ Also, think of snakes.  With the Crawl Space door left open or no Crawl Space door,  snakes and other varmints have an entry point into your Crawl Space to create problems and if you have holes in your subfloor or entry points into the home, where plumbing or vent work is, they can potentially enter the inside of your home.  We do not want this or need this.

5/ Cables and wiring in your Crawl Space.  Do you really want animals or critters in your Crawl Space, chewing up cables for television or cables for your internet?  Not a good idea, at all.

6/ Mold in your Crawl Space.  If you do have a Mold Issue in your Crawl Space and you allow your pets in your Crawl Space,  you could be exposing your pet or pets to Mold and this is not a wise thing to do.

7/ Water Damage.  Animals could create Water Damage by chewing on refrigerator lines or plumbing lines to create Moisture issues, in your Crawl Space.  I had a vent to my Crawl Space, that had popped out and a squirrel had made its way into my Crawl Space and the squirrel had chewed up the refrigerator line and created Water Damage as well as Mold Removal issues so not only did I have to correct the Water Damage and correct the Mold Issue with a Mold Removal but I also had to call a plumber to correct the issue with Plumbing and all of this took time and money.

This is just some helpful advice and my suggestions.
