How did I get here: A Pet friendly Beverly Hills Realtor for 26+ years?
“….someday you will be old enough to start reading fairytales again…” C.S. Lewis
I thought this quote would be perfect to sum up my post in the submission to this fun Active Rain Challenge. Thank you, Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP , for nudging and inspiring me to participate.
Seriously everything in this post is true, even if it sounds like a fairytale. It is about my life, and I can prove it with pictures and if I am not mistaken that is the purpose of this challenge to do some photo journaling. Keeping in mind I have always used photos trying to break up my monotonous blog posts, where I tended to drone on.
Now with that said, let me begin: There was a little boy who lived the first ten years of his life in Communist Hungary and his father was the supreme optimist and wanted to live in the United States of America. He wanted to escape from Communist brainwashing and provide a better world for his wife and son, after all, he knew and believed, that the streets were paved with gold in the United States. Just on a side note, any Realtor worth his value needs to have ‘supreme optimism’, thank you dad for instilling this belief system into my way of living.
When we finally ended up in the United States, my father wanted me to study the Greek Language. He hoped that I read would be able to read the Greek Philosophers in their own language. That was not to be since Notre Dame High School in Fairfield CT would only teach Latin. Nevertheless, he managed to inspired me to read the Greek Philosophers in English and I learn to appreciate them for their wisdom. If you have read my posts over the years, you might have noticed, that periodically, I sprinkle in a few Quotes from my favorite philosopher Marcus Aurelius:
“…the art of living is more like wrestling than dancing, in that it stands ready for what comes and is not thrown by the unforeseen…”
This message has resonated with me throughout my whole life, not just at the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., but in Ranger School, as well as in the U.S. Army. I could go on an on about it, but then it would not be a short post about my life rather a boring long book.
After I left the military I moved to Boston, MA and enjoyed ten wonderful years living initially in Wilmington, MA a close suburb of Boston and then moving in the city itself. Where I ultimately met Diane and started on a new adventure and became a Realtor in Boston, MA.
Then an opportunity was presented to Diane to relocate to Los Angeles, CA. My thought was, I can do anything. Selling real estate in Boston, MA should not be much different from selling real estate in California.
Haha, little did I know about having to learn not just the new neighborhoods, but to have to take license course for driving as well as real estate and passing the exams….Next thing you know it I have been a Beverly Hills Realtor now going on 26 years. Time flies so with that said let me share something every person can appreciate, especially in real estate:
‘…do not imagine that if something is hard for you to achieve, it is therefore impossible for any man: rather consider anything that is humanly possible and appropriate to lie within your own reach too….’
Marcus Aurelius
