Have we forgotten the price that was paid? (Graphic)

As an American, a Patriot, a Veteran, I am concerned for America. I'm concerned about our very existence and survival. I was on Long Island on September 11, 2001. It is a memory that is etched in my memory forever.

I just brought my children to school and myself to work at their school when we received a call, "A plane hit the WTC" rang out with fear. The gentleman who delivered that message (My friend Rick C) was supposed to be on the 103rd floor that day, but his son broke his collar bone the day before and was in too much pain to be alone, so he asked his dad to stay home.

Being in the flight path to LaGuardia, JFK & McArthur Airports and being use to the sound of planes roaring overhead drew an incredible eeriness in its absence. I've never seen Long Island Expressway so barron. My ride home was terrifying. My children were silent.

There's talk of change in Washington. The change I want to see is a safer America, less dependence on foreign oil, people returning to the God of their youth, children being taught to honor, respect, protect & defend this great country.

I wouldn't tell you how to vote, but I will say consider the following and evaluate the price that has been paid for the freedom we enjoy.

WORLD WAR II - PICTURES

A U.S. solider surveys a German concentration camp. It is a matter of history that when Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps, he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead.

He did this because he said in words to this effect: 'Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses - because somewhere down the track of history some b*****d will get up and say that this never happened' 'All that is necessary for the > > triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing' Edmund Burke.

This week, the UK removed The Holocaust from its school > > curriculum because it 'offended' the Muslim population which claims it never occurred. This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving in to it.

These photos were taken in Germany by James Emison Chanslor, an Army Master Sergeant who served in World War II from 1942 until 1945. Source: Photos courtesy of John Michael Chanslor.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. In memory of the 36+ million who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated. Now, more than ever, with Iran, among others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'a myth,' it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.

Nice post Sara. I cannot believe that there are people who would deny the Holocaust, but I have seen their writings. Very scary.

Sara-  Anyone who thinks the Holocaust did not take place is an idiot and as evil as those who were responsible for it!  I'm appalled at the decision by the UK to stop teaching it because of pressure from the Muslim community.  Completely assanine!

I'm also very concerned about how short our memories are and our collective national attention span.  Unfortunately it will take another disaster by terrorists to teach us our lesson, probably after the change of power, but I doubt even then that as a nation we will really realize the harm that our enemies would love to bring to us.

As a nation we have had it way too good for way too long.  Several generations now, have had hardly to make any sacrifices and it's all about cars, houses and vacations.  Unfortunately we will eventually be taught our lesson.

Sorry for such a long comment, but your post really hit me!  All the best!

Kevin

It is so sad that our hectic, high tech world so often takes precedence over what has shaped us as a person, family, country, planet, galaxy, universe.  We ignore the past because we don't want to admit that mistakes were made, regrets and remorse are an important part of living and growing, and that human beings have long suffered and will continue to suffer at the hands of other humans.  One of my biggest regrets is that, when I was in Poland,  I did not stop and tour Auschwitz.  I didn't realize until about 50 miles after we passed the road to Auschwitz that we were so close.  I wish I had turned around and gone back.     Those soldiers who fought WWII didn't have the amenities that we are able to provide the military today  (not that they don't deserve it today   -  the technology just wasn't available back then).   Yet they served gallantly, relentlessly, and blindly  -  with hope that whatever price they paid would provide a very small beam of light and help obliterate the darkness of oppression and terrorism.

Thank you, Sara, for giving me the opportunity to remember that, while there are pits in the sweet cherries, peaches, nectarines....if the pits didn't exist, neither would the fruit!

Offended??? since when are the muslims or anyone else for that matter supposed to be protected from being offended!!! I am highly offended at the America that is showing its now dirty, ugly face... we expect our young people to be respectful... look at their examples... anyone for a cigar??  Many of us know there is gross corruption in some of  our elected officials and so as my great grandmother used to say "the fish stinks from the head". We need a revolution to revive our country... America is to be an example to the world... let everyone who wants a change for the better DO something about it ... pray, vote and pray continually... without God governing us we are allowing and even sanctioning abortions, same sex marriages, laws on the books that are not inforced, judges who make decisions that are unjust...allowing our enemies into our communities... our fine young military being sent into combat where they are hindered from doing the job that needs doing... at 911 we cried out God bless America... we need to cry out God help America... we have sinned as individuals as well as a nation putting the economy as our priority... as if our counterfeit dollars ...even gold and silver could save us from what is coming on the earth...

I agree with you.

I was watching a Sophia Loren movie last night about Rome. I sat there thinking that America is following in the path of Rome and will fall just like Rome did unless we change. I honestly don't see it as being far away. Not as far away as I once thought.

America is sleeping again. And of course we have the 9/11 "inside job" lunatics. The holocaust denyers are people we have to watch and counter every time.

Sara- I believe the enemies of this country are counting on the short memories we as a nation have.I also believe that they are one of the reasons Obama is raising so much money so quickly

The pictures should be jarring reminder what happened during WWII. Only several years ago and our memories are already faded as if nothing happened on 9-11.

May they never repeat.
