Ask An Ambassador: Are Your Titles Hitting The Bullseye?

Many, many moons ago back in my Navy days I enjoyed throwing darts, be it during an in port duty night or when I had a little down time while at sea.  As you might guess, throwing darts while underway puts a little variation in your accuracy!  

Throwing darts isn't that different than blogging for business.


To get found, you have to hit your target. 


While being on the board may get you points (increased web presence), the closer you get to your desired target, the more likely you're going to start hitting what you're actually trying to hit. 


I'm no SEO expert, but your title is one of your blogging darts and a key to getting found.


When you cruise through the blog roll, what do you look for?  Either people you know that consistently produce good content, and/or a post with a title that catches your eye and tempts you to click.


Now that's just here in the Rain, now throw that post out into the wide, wide world of the Internet.


How likely is a post title of "Home for sale" to get found by your desired audience?  Your dart isn't going to be close to hitting the target, in fact you probably just poked a hole in your drywall.


Take your title to some place a bit more specific such as "Cincinnati Home For Sale" and now your odds of getting near the board are a bit better, but you're still probably poking a hole in the wall and not the board.  That general target board is practically owned by the big syndicators, right?


So you've got to get even MORE specific. 

E.g. Mason Ohio Townhomes for Sale in Beacon Hill or

Beacon Hill Townhomes For Sale Mason Ohio 45040


I know, not the most interesting title in the world UNLESS you're a home buyer searching for Mason Ohio Townhomes for sale.


If you are, our IDX page is going to provide exactly what you're looking for and the title makes that clear.  Click and you'll get information about the Beacon Hill community and the latest MLS information for townhomes for sale in that community.


The title and the content hit the bullseye, a Chrome incognito search has that IDX page as organic spot #1 on page 1.  That search ranks us above, Z,, and other agent web sites.  That page has directly led to calls, clients and closings, and isn't that what you want if you're blogging for business.

You can take the same recipe and expand it.  Find the areas you want to work, gather the content and create the pages.

Do it right and you'll be considered to have hit the target by the consumer.  Isn't that what you're aiming for?

Hello Bill(and Liz too) - although my usual AR reading strategy finds me clicking on those I follow, searches through the daily blog roll can lead to some adventures.  Some can be interesting and worthwhile but there is no shortage of those who lead nowhere.  Real estate is a marketing business - your post can help you prove your effectiveness in getting that message delivered.
