Juneteenth in Gaithersburg, Maryland

Juneteenth/Freedom Day marks the anniversary of the arrival of Union soldiers in Galveston, Texas. On June 19, 1865, two and half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, the Union soldiers enforced the president’s order ending enslavement.
Celebrate Juneteenth with the City’s virtual Jubilation Day Gospel Concert on Saturday, June 19 at 11 a.m. on the Special Events Facebook page. The video will feature Scott, Gospel Artist and Wammie Award Nominee Andrea René Williams, and Gospel artist Melvin Caldwell. The celebration also includes interesting facts about “red foods” and what they represent, and the Juneteenth Flag – its symbolism and why it's celebrated.
