In the early 1970s The Carpenters were one of the most sought-after acts in the world. According to their website they performed over 800 live concerts between 1971 and 1975 in addition to recording 10 albums and three number one singles. In the late 1970s they produced five television specials. That was an incredible workload.

Driven by Richards compositions and harmony and powered by Karen’s deep sultry voice their music is easily recognizable and still sounds great 50 years later.
Although being known mostly as the lead singer, Karen, fancied herself as the groups drummer and wished to be known for her drumming skills.
I could have chosen any number of Carpenters songs for our article today but I chose Top of the World because it has such an upbeat sound. This video shows The Carpenters at The White House in 1973.
The musical group continued to be popular into the 1980s until Karen passed from complications of anorexia nervosa 1983. It was great loss to the music industry.
When you listen to this song it makes you smile and at the same time brings a little tear to your eye.
